100 Down, More Than Halfway Home

On February 13 of this year, I hit my highest measured weight, 375. This morning - one day under five months later - I weighed 274.8, for a 100.2 pound loss. 100 is an arbitrary number, but it sure is a fun one. Pounds-wise (though not time-wise) I am now more than half-way to my goal (assuming something in the range of 180-205). Though I considered myself a pretty healthy 375-pounder, with no significant problems that could be "cured," the difference has still been remarkable. I am sleeping soundly and feel much more rested during the day; I can play racquetball for over an hour and not feel winded at all; simple tasks involving standing for a long time (like cooking, or cleaning, or just hanging out with friends) are now no problem, whereas before I'd hunt for a chair within minutes; and most importantly, I'm getting back to the heart of my wardrobe where I can wear most of my clothes and feel comfortable in them, instead of cramming myself into a shirt and pants that barely fit (or only fit standing up). I'm really excited for what the next stage would be like, because this is already about as good as I'd hoped for.

Russ, I'm 30 years old and right under 6'0" shoeless. Some people have said I look taller now.  I've heard that can happen, but I think it's an optical illusion. It has been a wild ride.  I've lost over 100 before, but never this fast, and never while being this happy about it.  Normally, it's filled with the conflict of being very hungry, the frustration of very slow loss, and the knowledge that my body can gain so incredibly fast if I slack off.  Now I'm always comfortable (if not always "full"), the exercise seems like a feature, not a bug, and I have comfort in knowing that while regain is possible, it will never be so quick as it was before, nor so difficult to reverse physically and psychologically.  Of course, most of this is the surgery, but partly it's just experience (even if you do think I'm still a kid) from a dozen trips up and down the scale.  At 22 exercising seemed like work and I wanted to watch TV; lately it's seemed like fun that reminds me of what it felt like to be 22.
