Sleep Apnea Diagnosis -- What Should I Do?

Danny, At 385+ I passed my Sleep test with flying colors! No Sleep apnea at all. I didn’t even snore! You’ve not been reading a lot if you got- "From reading the OH board and others, it seems like most people who are given one of these CPAP machines don't benefit from it or can't stand to use it anyway, and then abandon it within months of surgery." Dam over the past 5 years of reading these boards I’ve seen people talk about theirs like it was the breath of Jesus! But, still most are happy to not need them any more after there weight is gone… Sort of how big folk feel about clothes larger enough to actually fit- Glad to Have ‘em, Resent Needing them. Yes? It does lower the risk of the number one Fat-Man Killer- Which is "Unexpected Death." Some guys have Great results, other hardly notice a change… But, if it fits into the category of "jumping through the hoops" To get approved for surgery? There are some who would sleep every night with a Pencil up their nose And a deck of cards in their azz-crack to make that happen. No experience first hand from me… Breathin’ just fine now and then… Best Wishes- Dx

Hey man, I sympathize with you.  I really do.  But your reaction is the same as anyone elses who has had this diagnosis.  Despite what you feel like, there is a reason that they diagnosed you with Sleep Apnea.  Something they saw, and that your body told their equipment, said "I have sleep apnea".  They don't diagnose just to diagnose.  That being said, I have had to initiate many CPAP machines on patients in the hospital.  Everyone hates it at first, but once they get used to it, they are o.k. with it.  The diagnosis is only for your benefit.  Like someone said, just play the game, get the toys, have your surgery and who know's.  You probably won't need it after you loose the weight.  Best of luck to you!

Until the King Returns,
John Hopper
