Approved!!! - Well Almost

I have been waiting for the this before coming out of the lurking phase.

I have been approved for the Lap Band but I cannot get to excited about it yet. I just found out yesterday the surgical center my surgeon is associated will not accept me as a patient because of my sleep apena. They however are associated with a hospital in the area as well. Here is the almost part. The surgical center is an In-Network provider and the hospital is not. My insurance has a work around for this very situation but as you all know insurance companies can be rough to work with and times.

So make room for me on the losers bench. Maybe.

This is the first time I have heard of a surgery center that won't accept someone because they have sleep apnea. So many obese people have sleep apnea, it just boggles my mind that you would be excluded because of it.

I'm glad that your insurance has a work-around and I hope that it will provide you with what you need in a timely fashion. Hang in there and know we're pulling for ya.

Ksu, I’m with gmox on this one… first time I’ve heard of sleep apnea being a hindrance for having the surgery. Usually it’s one of the factors that helps get insurance to cover it. Whatever the case, I hope you get through all of the Ins. Hoops soon. Keep at it. Best Wishes- Dx

Everyone. Thanks for the encoruagement. I am a bit puzzled also because sleep apena is common for obese people. I am going to continue to push to get this thing done. I will be in the losers locker room soon enough.
