Well I thank you all for helping me through a very rough weekend!! I called my doctor Monday morning and she threw another pill on me, now I take Januvia and Avandia in the morning, and Metaformin at night.  I started it yesterday, Monday, July 2. I woke up this morning, Tuesday, and drew some blood, 305!!  I can't understand it.  All my nerve endings in my legs were screaming, mild headache.  I'm so close to getting my date, but they've told me that if my blood sugar isn't controlled, no surgery. I'm depressed as all get out but trying to stay on top of it. I have my children this week and that's a blessing, we go swimming for hours on end, I swear they would stay in the pool all day if I let them!   During the day yesterday, my BS dipped to 267, but that's the lowest it's been. Stay cool, Bob.

Bob, Best of luck, I feel for you as you your date gets closer. I know very little about BS issues but I hope the combination of durgs and pool activities will help keep you in a safe zone. Herb

Bob, I had as similar problem with my Blood Pressure the month before my WLS.  My PCP was terrific at getting me meds to keep it statistically undercontrol so I could get the surgery that has really amended the issues without meds. Just make sure your diet is not part of the probelm and stay close to your physician.  They know this surgery, well RNY, is commended for recovery of diabetic and BS issues.  Hang in there and keep those prayers going.  You are going to make it if its suppose to happen and you don't sabotage yourself. I tend to have those own worst enemy, self destruct  tendencies sometimes too.  It use to be food.  And I am much more aware now that food isn't an option. Joe

You should realize that the new combo of meds is working progressively.  If you are concerned about how soon they should lower your BS significantly, just call your doctor's office.  I'll bet that she'll say that you should allow 1 week for the meds to totally take effect.  I don't have BS issues, but that seems to be a reasonable amount of time for most meds.to take effect.      I afree that you should spend a lot of time in the pool.  I also realize that caring for kids in a pool is not the same as just doing dedicated exercising in the pool.  But, any exercise you do will help you.      I am wondering about your statement that you are depressed.  Are you trully depressed as in the medical/mental condition of depression?  Or, are you reasonably frustrated by the delays you are facing.  If the latter is true, know that many other pre-ops had similar problems.  You know that there are patients who have conditions that are too risky for surgery.  Your problem sounds like it will be handled and you will eventually have WLS.      If you are suffering from depression, get talk therapy or meds.  Most talk therapists (psychologists or msw's) will insist that you see a psychiatrist before they will start their therapy.  Many people need a combination of the them to recover from depression.  You may have short term depression which can be easily controlled.

Bob, I hope you are able to control your blood sugar soon.  I'm sure the situation creates a lot of stress for you.  And, you are close to scheduling your surgery. I will continue to pray for you.

Two pieces of advice, Bob.   First:  When you have diabetes, especially when it's as out of control as this, you want to eat like a post-op.  Protien first, no sugar, no fat, and as few starches as p;ossible.  I know that's no fun, but neither is what you 're going through.  It's just a matter of getting the diet under control, and as someone has already mentioned, give the medication a few days to work.   Second:  If you're feeling depression enough that it's making you eat badly, or not want to participate in activities, then maybe it's time to get some help.  There's no shame in that at all. I just hate to see you get denied the surgery because of this, because it can deifinitly help your diabetes.  To quote something I've said on here, and I've seen a LOT of other people say on here, the surgery is a tool - not the end.  It's a tool to build yourself a healthy, long, and active life.  But like any tool, it can be abused and fail - so you really need to get in the mindset of eating properly and exercising.   It's scary.  My best friend is a type1  diabetic, and my wife is type 2.  I've seen what it can do, and been through the frustration of not being able to get the numbers down.  Add to that the fact that your feeling the physical aspects of high blood glucose - it's time for some drastic steps. I wish you luck.

Yes, thank you. My breakfast of sausage and eggs didn't help this morning, nor did my mid morning snack of 1 biscuit with gravy....it's a killer. I think I will do as you suggest, maybe look for my South Beach book and start on that for a time. BobM

Actually - better than South Beach. Check out Sugar Busters: http://www.sugarbusters.com/ My wife's endocronologist (probably spelled wrong) recommended this one.  You cook and eat regular food - just learn a way of getting around sugar. The idea here, as it is with the surgery, is to learn a new healthy lifestyle, and develop healthy habits.  Doing a diet where stuff is pre-packaged crap, or a fad diet  isn't going to work.  I mean, if you think about it, we've all been through this most of our lives.  Doing diets that ultimately fail because we feel deprived and go off of the diet. The key is to learn to cook healthy food, and eat the right portions.  That's all - it's easy when you look at it from that angle. Send me a private message if you want to talk about it more, Bob - I've been going through this with my friend and my wife with thier diabetes for years and years.  My friend, the type 1, and I were roommates for quite a while, and I saw him go into DKA a couple of times.  It's no fun. But - type 2 is more managable, and you can do it.  Good luck!
