Thanks, Rick!

Had a lot of fun building that stuff. Not sure why I do it. When I was playing music, I had to build my own speakers, tried to build my own racing bike wheel one time (That did NOT work. Hellll of a learning curve there!)

Still working out hard. My project for today is to go out to a gym and find a rowing machine and see if I can get my heart rate up higher than I can get it on a running sprint. Supposed to be able to do that.

How's your program coming?

Hey Dave, To follow up on the others, you are an inspiration to all of us here.  Since taking your advice, I have been doing my 2 miles every morning (even on the mornings I work with my personal trainer) and alternating with the all out sprints.  And on my hill where I live (most of it in excess of 12 - 15% grade) it's tough - but I'm really seeing the results in increased stamina.' My weight lifting / workouts are really good - lots of increase in the weights, he does a lot with super sets - and I know I could not have kept it going without the cardio on the hill. This morning when I got back I am at 165 pounds!  Yeah - and pre surgery was 255 -90 big ones gone!   I know, on this board that's a lightweight, but it was heavy me and came with diabetes, hi-blood pressure, hyper tension,  and all the associated bull****  Off all of the medication - resting H/R is 58, BP almost constant @ 105/70. Thanks for your encouragement and other here on the board. Regards, Rick in LA

Thanks for posting the pics...I really couldn't visulize very well what you were talking about, now it is makes sense. I was surprised that you thought so much about your safety but then rigged up those lightbulbs! Seriously, have  you ever taken one of those burning hot light bulbs in the face? Just giving you a hard time, but please do be careful...By the way, if you ask pose the question "do these pants make my ass look fat?' again in the Locker Room, you may be looking at a suspension. consider this a written warning!!!!...keep up the great work! befror you know it you will be Mr. Ex-Fat Universe!

Hi Mike,

As far as I can tell it is different from any home gym you might see on the internet. The squat rack is pretty standard, but I've never seen any foldout dip contraption, lateral pulling shrug chains, or chain suspended dumbbells/barbells anywhere. Surely, someone else must have done it, though.

The lights were attached to a lumber rack I had there when the garage was primarily a home workshop. I just haven't had time to look for the ideal fixture. I haven't even finished the drywall down there. My wife and I puttied and taped all of the drywall in the rest of the house.

Okay...lol...point taken. I need that fat a$$ as a counterweight, anyway - something to keep me from being pulled forward! (riiight!).

All I see is muscle muscle muscle! Those chains are a pretty good idea, even better than a Smith machine with glide locks! Thanks for sharing. BobM.

Hi Bob,

Smith machines...PowerLine Smith Machine

They're probably safer for the back, but I like a little wobble to work the peripheral muscles.

How's the journey coming? Aren't you approved? Sorry I haven't had time to keep up.

Best Wishes,

Dave

Thanks, Jim (almost typed "gym"!)

The workout room is like me, rough, meandering, but with a theme (or two).

Hope You Are Well and Feeling Good,

Dave

Dave--  Sorry, I mean NotDave...Your physique looks like you've never been obese.  You seem to have no skin issues.  Would I be correct in saying that your previous fitness life (and certainly your current workout regimen) have contributed to this?  What I mean is, even at your heaviest were you a pretty physically fit guy whose fitness level was obscured by a layer of fat?  That is sort of how I feel.  I feel that I posess all the components of physical fitness except one.  I have strength, muscular endurance, cardio-vascular fitness, and flexibility.  The one that eludes me is a healthy muscle to fat ratio.  At any rate, I think you and Carbon Blob (Fred or is it NotFred?) inspire many of the guys here me included.  You guys demonstrate that with proper nutrition and a dedicated workout program, dramatic changes to ones body can occur.  Keep up the good work my friend. Sonny

You will be assimilated, resistance is futile.

Hi Sonny,

Well my heaviest weight since middle age was only about 280, so I'm not sure if I was heavy enough with my large frame to get a lot of loose skin. I also yo-yoed many times, even as a child, which I think should have some effect on how the skin develops, maybe with more elasticity. And of course, muscle size does help a lot.

I don't think I ever stopped working out at least once, usually twice a week from age 30 on, jogging on Saturdays, swimming on Sundays.

So those may all be factors. You'll probably have very little loose skin, as well since you are a light weight.

Best Wishes,

Dave
