One year from decision...looking back
Hi Jim, make sure you find a center of excellence for your surgery. These are certified surgeons who have a very low complication rate. Probability of you having serious complications if you do not have surgery? 100%. Probability you will have complications with surgery? At a center of excellence - less than .5%
In terms of gaining it back, realize first that I am only 9 months out and I have that fear myself. In his book, "What Got Your Here Won't Get You There", Marshall Goldsmith says the key to changing your behavior is to let everyone know that cares about you that you are trying to change, remind them you are trying to change, and give them the permission to call you out if you start gaining it back. I have given about 40 people permission to kick my hind end if I start to gain this weight back. And I will keep reminding them to do it as well. I need that external peer pressure. I'm so much a people pleaser at times that this helps a great deal.
One final thing. Do you remember the movie "Wall Street" with Michael Douglas and Charlie Sheen. Hal Holbrook's comes up to Bud Fox (aka Sheen) and tells him right before he gets arrested..."There is a time in a man's life when he looks in the abyss and see's his reflection. That memory is what keeps him from falling into the abyss." I always remember that when I think back at the possibility of gaining the weight back. That fear is what helps keep me on the straight and narrow. The blessings that come with it are a pretty heavy motivator as well. I use whatever I need to keep me going....friends, fear, or FARTs.
Hope this helps.
Blessings,
Greg
Thanks for the words fellow Tennessean! I'm still waiting for my approval, but those words speak loudly!
Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees that give way; say to those with fearful hearts, "Be strong, do not fear; your God will come....
Have a blessed day, leap like that deer, and have fun!
