One week post-op report

Hi guys,

Man, it feels so great to be on the "other side" now and it's been one hell of a week (but in a good way).  Had my RNY on Tuesday, came home on Thursday and have been walking, sipping, and breathing ever since.....and still occasionally snarfing down some Percocets as needed.  Bloating is way down, gas is still a bit of an issue at night (more funny for me, more annoying for my wife!), and I've also noticed that my hands and feet tend to get cold on occassion, but other than that, no nausea or light-headedness.  All told, I think I'm doing great.

Here are my stats so far:

Pre-op (6/19):   297  Post-op (6/26):  282   Loss:  15 lbs I'm trying to not freak out over that loss, and I certainly know that there's no way I'm going to maintain that kind of loss every week, but does that fit somewhere in the parameters of "normal" for a first-week kind of loss? Anyway, I have no doubt that I did the right thing and I can't wait to see how everything unfolds. Bill

Bill, Glad to hear things are going well for you.  It's hard to get used to being cold all the time.  Here it is almost 90 degrees and my hands are freezing.  Keep up the great job and keep sharing your experiences.  We enjoy hearing them.

You're doing great and still have a few weeks of rapid loss coming.  Enjoy them,. it slows down as you progress.  The body is an amazing thing as it relearns and adjusts. You will have periods of getting smaller but the scales says no weight loss and times when the scales are dropping but you are still wearing the same size clothes.  Just enjoy the numbers, record them weekly to monthly.  Judge by measurements and clothing size, not just the scales.  Remember the weight you started at because there may be others that started about the same time you did that are smaller or larger, but it depends on their starting weight, the procedure they had, how well they are sticking to their program and how much exercise  (and tyoe) they are getting, that impacts the speed of weight loss.  Remeber you need the protein to keep your muscle mass, that burns the calories or you body will get the protein it need from your muscles.  And you need your water to keep the kidneys working, prevent kidney stones, and to flush out the stored stuff your body is burning off with the reduction of food and calories. You are doing great.  The Farts should have already started with that kinda loss.

Hi Bill, Things sound good. Glad you're home and on a roll. Being cold/colder is par for this course, especially right away. I'm almost a year out and still feel colder than my "normie" family and friends some times. Brrrr. Sure beats the old beefy days of being too warm. Enjoy the fast downhill trip!

Doug,  You mean you don't miss the good ole days when you could sit in a lawn chair under a shade tree and sweat buckets????  Come on, I'm extremely closet to being on the other side also, last fat summer for me, give me an extra sweater any day that sweating like a hog in a slaughter house.  Yeah.

Bill your doing fine.  Take a look at my pictures.  Sorry I have not updated them but I have about the same body frame that you have.  I reached my goal quickly (6 months and 10 days).  I am now 190 and at my goal, (medium frame at 5-10" to 5-11").  Soon you'll be pulling out your old bellbottoms from the back of the closet and trying them on.  Can you dig it?  Brian
