OT: Black and Blue
I occasionally look like someone's been beating me or grabbing me. I have several black and blue spots on my left leg and a few on both of my arms. This has been happening over the course of the last few months. They don't hurt unless I put pressure on them, i.e., touch them. I haven't been bumping into anything and my wife doesn't beat me. I will talk to my doc about them when I see him but I was just wondering if any of you might have an insight.

Hey Bob...
I had the same battered look.....1 the doc told me that I was taking too much Vit E....that it caused brusing....I don;t take extra Vit .just my flintstones.....he told me to find another vit with no vit e....yeeh ok...not worth the trouble...
But my surgeon, said that Vit e has nothing to do with clotting...but still you may need this info...
Also....I noticed that I was always crashing my shin....really nasty....everywhere I turned....
and I figured it out....back when I was fat...I used my thighs as a buffer...the dishwasher would come down and I would let it bump on my thigh than then down,,,,,we now...that I have no thighs..it would crash down on my shin....same with closing cabinets...
it's amazing how we would compensate with a fat body.....
Tell the wife we appreciate her not roughing you up too bad
Russ
Bob,
Here’s my guess….
Reduced fat absorption from the by-pass could be reducing your absorption of fat soluble vitamins. Vitamin K is the leading suspect here. It is a fat soluble vitamin responsible for clotting factor in blood. Are you on any type of blood thinner? If so, that would obviously be the culprit, but if not, then I’d try upping intake of green leafy veggies to get more vitamin K.
Ask your doc on next meeting….
It could be any number of minor issues…
Best Wishes-
