Running FART

AJ, Dan, and Scott have me too damn enthused about running.  In the past month, I've done two 5Ks and one 4 Mile run.  My immediate goal is just to finish but I'm doing better with each one. I ran my first 5K in about 12 years on May 19th and finished in 32:50.  I was pretty satisfied. Then June 16th, I ran a 4 mile run.  My thought mid way through was "What Was I Thinking."  I finished the 4 miles in 40:14 (14 seconds more than my goal).  This past Saturday, I finished the 5K in 30:30.  I was shooting for 30 minutes, but I guess it took me at least 30 seconds to just get to the start line.  I'm real excited that I'm now running in less than a 10 minute pace.  I'll never get to the level of these three inspirations, but they've improved my self-attitude.  Thanks guys. AJ - you think the new IPOD has anything to do with the improved time?  LOL Floyd

Hi Floyd, Whew! You've almost got me wanting to run, and I'm still a moderately slow walker. I don't enough about running times to comment on your stats, but I do know about setting and pursuing exciting, healthy, once-out-of-reach goals. Keep us posted as you morph into Fleetfooted Floyd. And add yourself to the roster of inspirational guys.

hey Floyd,

it's funny, i run now too. i hate it! my dog runs when i run so guess who took up running? i run 3 miles in the canyons daily and she must cover at least 6. if i walk she walks so now i have no choice but to run. i never timed myself but i bet i could do a 5k if i wanted. i see other runners down there and i can keep up with the slower ones so who knows? a new hobby for me. i had to buy second pair of Asics for running. a great shoe. so count me in too. a reluctant runner......carbonblob

Way to go man.  You are so close to the 10:00 mark.  My advice is to go out faster than you think you should.  This has worked for me.  When I go out faster, I seem to hold my pace and finish with a good time.  If you crash and burn there is always next week. Scott

Congratulations Floyd! Last year at this time, I was running nearly 20 miles a week. Ran in a 5k “Fun-Run” last 4th of July. Then after my PS, I sort of “Lost my religion” when it came to running. The last month I have finally gotten the motivation to go back to it. Re-Starting was the hardest thing… But, It’s back. Keep it Up! Starting after a long stop is surprisingly difficult. We’ll run now that We CAN, as long As we Can. Great that you’ve “caught the fever!” Keep it Up!! A few months and that 10 minute Goal will be a Given! Best Wishes- Dx

Floyd,
Great job, bro!
I think you should officially call the 5K time at under 30 minutes.
Since, there's always that log jam of folks at the start of the race that blows a good 45-60 seconds off your time (unless you start out in front and stay there!).

And, hell yeah, the iPod had something to do with it. I find myself running my best times when listening to music. Unfortunatly, USAT rules prohibit the use of personal audio devices during sanctioned triathlons. But, I did use one in a 5 Mile race this Saturday and finished up sub 9:00. (After a 15 mile bike ride)

Way to go!

Be Well,
A.J.

Way to go Floyd !!! You rock... Now how about that AF Marathon on Sept. 15th?  Are you signed up for it yet?  At least the 1/2 Marathon...I think you should consider it.  Your doing great. Sherri
