Headaches post surgery

Hey guys, first off I am fairly new to the mens locker room. I have posted like once before but nothing big. I had my RNY on 5/15 here in Charlotte. I am 23 years old and was wondering, have any of you guys experienced like minor headaches post surgery?  I called my nutritionist and she said it could be hypoglycemia and to eat more carbs and fruit. This was only yesterday so I am still trying to include that. How long did it take everyone to feel "normal" again like you did pre surgery? I currently weigh 319 down from a high of 365.  I am not really having any problems getting my fluids in. I have some anxiety issues. My PCP put me on a low dose anxiety med which could be part of the headache im sure (I only started taking the meds this past wednesday) I just returned to work Thursday of this week. I work in a call center dealing with investments for a large brokerage firm here in Charlotte. I just feel really run down and everything. Any advice?

For just over 1 month out from surgery, your experience sounds familiar. I'm just over 6 months out, and I never did feel like my old self, I feel much better! As for the headaches, could be the anxiety meds. It takes a few weeks on them to get past the initial side affects. Many of us take them, including myself. Could be blood sugar or dehydration. Drinking as much water as you can inbetween meals helps me. I took almost a month off of work, and remember being wiped out once I returned. Go easy if you can, half shifts at first maybe. ?? Hang in there, for most of us things get a whole lot better at about 6 weeks out. JP

Hey, I just went back to work this past Wednesdays. I've been making it till around 6pm each day before feeling just totally run down. I work from 11-8pm with an hour lunch so...Work has been supportive and is working with me anyway they can. Being a call center doesn't help especially when there are only 200 of us to cover some millions of customers....haha....=)....Thanks for the info. I am thinking it could be the meds too. I have been on depression meds pre surgery and remember this feeling roughly. The tired and all. So its a double wammy. How do you get all your carbs in? My nutritionist wants around 100 carbs a day. At 6 weeks post op she said it will not be easy but to try as it will make u feel better.....Any advice?

Make sure you are getting a chewable iron.  There is a good one at www.bestbariatricsupply.com this really helped me with the energy level.  Being in Charlotte and with the weather being as wacky as it has been, your headaches might also be due to some allergies/sinus issues.  Not so much the sneezing kind, but the internal pressure.  I know I have had those lately and I am 7 months out. I would not eat more carbs or fruit....no way.  That will slow your weightloss very quickly.  Also, headaches may just be due to the fact that you are eating carbs.  I know the day after I cheat I have a mother of a headache because my body is trying to purge the carbs.  This diet should be like South Beach.  High quality proteins and fats, lots of good non-caffeine liquids, and very few carbs.   I'm sort of surprised about the NUT saying add more carbs at only 6 weeks out.  That is the exact opposite of what most doctors are telling us. Congrats on the weight loss so far.  Great to have you on the loser's bench.  Great question too.   Take care, Greg
