Holy smokes
I went to my PCP yesterday, I gained 72lbs since last year! YIKES! I had lost about 75lbs doing optifast last year, but didn't stay with it. I talked to him about lap band, he said that he will fully support me! He is not a big fan of RNY, but the surgeon who is doing Lap Band localy did a presentaion to my PCP clinic last week! He likes the idea of lapband, and so do I. I have signed up for the lapband presentation on 7/2 with DR. Darrin Glass. So the journey has begun. I am glad that there is a place where a person can shares there experiences and learn from others.
Hey K, Prior to surgery, I was forever having great success with diets- lose 60 lbs in around 3 months. My problem was always that business of gaining back 65 lbs. of it. J Have a Great class on the 2nd. Snag up all the info you can…even before. Those seminars are a great place to get answers to questions that pop up while doing your own research about the procedure. Best Wishes- Dx
Make sure you go into the class with an open mind. There are major benefits / risks to each type of surgery.
Do your research into the different procedures. Do not let a doctor's bias sway your decision. Unless he is a surgeon or has previous experience with different forms of surgery, his bias may be baseless.
Some suggestions on aspects of each surgery to look in to:
Insurance / Doctor / Surgeon Pre-Qualifications
Surgeons accessible to you - Procedures they offer
Pre-existing conditions that may limit the procedures available to you
Possible Procedure Complications
Post-Op Recovery Requirements
Post-Op Compliance Requirements ( This is the Maker / Breaker for most WLS patients )
Weight Loss percentages
Weight Re-Gain ( wrong phrase but you get what I mean ) percentages
Complete failure percentages
Complete success percentages
There are more things to look for and research but this should get you headed in the right direction
