Whiny Lap-Bander....

After two months, I really am disappointed with my experience post-op.  I know that I have only had one fill and I won't truely benefit from the "Not hungry, not full" for a while.  But, sticking to the intake rules is hard to do.  After eating 2 or 3 oz. I shouldn't feel hungry any more.  As it turns out, right now, I am hungry enough to eat as much as pre-op.  I still have the same problem now that got to this weight to begin with.  What's worse is, I have a post-op RNY wife who is whoopin' my ass with her yard stick.  She's always shaming me for eating more that she thinks I should.  I try to tell myself that 3 oz. is enough.  But, I end up hungry enough to eat the South end of a North bound skunk. Some days I feel sick from not eatin enough.  Today, I feel like I have gone through all this for nothing (even though I have lost 35lbs in two months). ****** and Moanin' Jeff

Jeff, Hang in there till you can get your fills to get you to your "sweet spot." I have a bunch of Banders in my local support group, and with some they "hit stride" after their 2nd fill, but some not until 3rd or even 4th. How soon do you have another coming up? 35 in 2 months is still 210 a year! How much you aimin’ to lose in the next year? J Go on and Biotch about it! You certainly can here. Also, for later, a fine place to show off how loose your pants are with a big-Ole- "Look at this!" Hang in there. Your RNY wife is just "fast out of the gate!" Turn it on when you round the next corner and you’ll catch her! In the meantime, stock up the house with low-cal stuff. Add some ‘Zero to Negative Calorie’ Foods- http://ezinearticles.com/?A-Negative-Calorie-Food-List&id=71 441 To every meal that passes your lips. Best Wishes- Dx

Not that this helps much, but you're not alone in the hunger department. I'm almost 10 months out from RNY and at times I am convinced that I'm hungry--in spite of all of the official advice that insists that I can't be that it's "only head hunger." Seems more like "hunger hunger" to me. Once we have surgery, it's very hard to be patient. That's part of the Fat Guy's Psyche. If we had patience, we could have lost weight without surgery, losing a pound or so a week, the "recommended way." But we couldn't, for physical and psychological reasons. You've done yourself a great good with surgery. Trust that your doc will work out the right fill and in the meantime: Trust Dx's info. It probably does take a few tries to get the fill right. In the meantime. I think that 35lbs in two months is pretty fine. That's 17.5lbs a month or a whopping 21lbs a year! You have not gone through all this for nothing, you're just in a hard spot. Don't give up on yourself or beat up on yourself. Keep that 35lbs in mind. Millions of folks would love to lose 17.5lbs a month. And, hey, a little ******' and moanin' is good for us now and then, even necessary for manly well-being. At least that's what I tell my wife when she accuses me of having a bad attitude. (Of course I tell her in a VERY SOFT VOICE when she's not looking . . .)

hey Jeff,

can't help in the lap band thing. i wonder though if you need to heal in that area? i know i had to let my nerve endings heal and i didn't get the full feeling for almost 7 months. i know it's different for you guys but maybe it's almost the same thing after reading Dx's thing about hitting your stride with the proper fill amount. so be patient maybe it's just the fill thing.

as for the wife, try to explain you don't need her to be the food patrol or monitor nazi. that's the worst thing she could do to you for obvious reasons. these surgeries really are an individual experience. i've learned this just from reading all these posts. each of us is different and every step of the way has not been duplicated by anyone here using their personal yard stick. so ask her to be patient, i'm sure you're beating yourself up enough for the both of you.

so don't despair, ride it out for a while and let your doc know what you're thinking. it's probably nothing more than just a fill but please don't get down on yourself. you're losing and that's what counts. keep in touch......carbonblob

Bring home a cupcake, and slowly eat the frosting in front of her. Make noises like you are having sex while doing it and be sure to tell her how every flavor dances across your tastebuds, then offer her some and take it back. After all she may dump on it, and tell her it is up to you to police her diet.

Let me chime in as a bandster myself. First of all, 35 pounds in 2 months is great. Don't compare yourself to a RNY patient when it comes to quick results. You will get discouraged every time. Lap Band is not made for that quick of a loss, there is no mal absorbsion involved. If your hungry, go for a fill, depending on your band size, it may take several (3 to 5) fill to get proper restriction. Hope you get to feeling better Let me know if you have any more questions.
