Most of us have probably already found this one out.  A new Stanford study regarding the effect of alcohol on bariatric surgery patients.  http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/06/19/BAGHNQHKS51.DTL

Read that in today's paper and of course have heard from others of this effect.  It's funny that for me I do feel effects faster but they seem to last as they would prior to surgery.  Overall I note little difference before or after.  But it seems I am in the minority on this.

From my experience at gatherings with multiple WLS'rs the effects of alcohol varies.  The effect of alcohol on me is contrary to the study - I'm a quick buzz and quickly back to normal person.  OK - well maybe not normal, but you know what I mean.  For others they get a quick buzz and the effects were lasting, similar to the effects pre-op. I've never been much of a drinker but I do know now that on those rare occasions when I do partake in an adult beverage, I'm an unintentional, quick, easy, cheap drunk.     CF

I must be very typical of the study participants.  Since surgery I get hit hard and fast by any alcohol I drink. I basically have to limit myself to the occasional drink and sip it very slowly.   If I have more than one drink I feel the effects most all of the next day.  I've definitely become the proverbial "cheap date"! ;-)

Yep, I used to be able to out drink an Irish Sailor, and drive him home… Now? I have the tolerance of a 5 year old ballerina. One sip beyond a glass of wine? Lampshade on the head time… It does pass quickly though… I have a touch every two to three weeks. Glass of wine with a meal, perhaps a little scotch. It’s gotta be "all about the flavor." Very little, very rarely…. Thanks for the info… Best Wishes- Dx

Wow, that's good to know!  I haven't drank in quite a while, but it used to take a lot to get me to even 'buzzed'.  I was not a beer drinker, but used to like my Firewater (cinnamon schnapps)... could drink 6 shots just to get a decent 'beginning buzz' at my size. I don't plan on drinking any time soon, but I'll be sure to remember the info! Dale
