I have kept my weight steady for a couple years but then started to go up. I couldn't figure out why. Then a read a newspaper article how prescription meds such as antidepressants and blood pressure meds can cause you to gain weight before you even know it. Then I knew why as I have been taking anti depressants for about a couple of months. Needless to say i stopped taking them after putting 20 lbs back on. What's a person to do? lol

1.  Don't stop taking antidepressants.  2.  Contact the physician or psychiatrist who prescribed the antidepressants and explain your problem.  3.  He/she should be able to prescribe a different antidepressant.   Many antidepressants help people gain weight because a great number of people who are depressed eat very little.  So, they get antidepressants that stimulate their appetites.  You don't need that stimulation.  I personally can appreciate your problem.  I am bi-polar and was originally treated with lithium to control the mood swings plus an antidepressant.  My primary physician contacted my shrink and suggested that I be taken off of the lithium.  My shrink prescribed Depakote and that made a big difference.  My condition is hereditary and I know it gets worse with age.  So, I have had changes in types and doses of antidepressants but I continue on the Depakote.  Don't scrifice your mental health when there is a simple solution.  Part of the problem with depression is that we tend to see everything as being negative and we also lose a positive focus.  Call the doc (s) first thing tomorrow.

Hey Jer, L O N G time no see! So, you’ve hit the "bounce back" that some Post-ops have around year 3? Yep, some anti-depressants will do it. No Biggie. There are bunches of others that don’t have the side effect of –

"Potential weight gain." Ask ‘em to give you one of those. It’s not an "Either – Or" dilemma. Amazing the drugs they have available these days. Give ‘em a call and get one that works, and doesn’t have the tendency to cause weight gain. Hope everything else is running fine for you! Best Wishes- Dx

Thanks all. Yes, it's certainly worth checking out a substitution for the present meds. We worked hard for this and want to keep it up. Let it be a warning for all those that have to take meds for any reason. If you notice increaded grazing or weight gain the meds may be the reqason. Jer

Wellbutrin is often good for people with a tendency to be fat.
