New here, the waiting is killing me

Hi guys, I've been lurking awhile and figured it was about time to post.  I completed all of my tests within three weeks of my first consultation so now I'm just waiting... and waiting...  My insurance (Aetna) requires a 3 month multi-disciplinary diet & excercise program so I just eat what they tell me, do what they tell me, and try to kill time between monthly visits.  I know I shouldn't complain because lots of people have much longer waits than I do.  I'm just anxious to be a loser. I'm 31 years old and I've been overweight since I was about 7 or 8.  I can't remember not being obese.  Hell,  I've only had one summer since high school where I wasn't morbidly obese.  I was up to 360 lbs at my consultation.  My 4 year old daughter is my inspiration for the WLS.  She is in pre-school and has a "boyfriend".  She told me a while back that she was going to marry him.  It hit me that when she does find the guy she wants to marry, I want to be around for it.  I want to make sure he's the right one.  I want to walk her down the aisle.  I want to see my grand kids.  I could come up with a new list of the 100 reasons to lose and they would all be about my wife and daughter. That's probably enough for my first post.  Thanks to those who are still reading. Rodney

Hey Rodney, Welcome to The Men’s Room! Yep, the waiting can be a Biotche! It seems to be that most people experience slow delays with all aspects of being approved, And, It also seems that most, couldn’t have it happen fast enough. It’s sort of the same as back when time seemed to slow down Between December 20th and the 25th. Paperwork gets left on bottom of stacks, A fax gets ‘missed’ or mis-placed, the person who ‘deals with that’ takes a couple of sick days, etc., etc., etc… Happens with lots of folks. AND- You’re not "lots of folks," None of us were…. The ‘waiting game’ can be down-right maddening. Hang in there; be pro-active when possible, More than pleasant in all communications with them, and fill the time with making sure ALL of your ducks are in a row. There is no real cure for impatience, But, You can minimize the symptoms by focusing attention on those things Which are with in your control, and thinking of the long term outcomes. Think in terms of your "10 year Plans." It’ll help weeks and months ‘seem’ to pass more quickly. And when you run out of ways to make the time pass? Drop in here and commiserate with us! Hope you find all of the info, experience and support this bunch has to offer! Best Wishes- Dx

Rodney, Hello and welcome to the Mens locker room. This is a great place to visit to learn for everyones experience with WLS.  You have a lot in commom with all of us, we've all been through the waiting and the required procedures. Even if I don't post I try to read the forum each day to hear how all the guys are doing. It's a great place , enjoy yourself and get to know everyone. Dan

Rodney The wait is bad, we've all been therebut that doesn't make it easier I know.  One thing I might suggest is to have results from all your test be sent to you.  Keep them in a notebook and take them with you for every appointment.  Paper work seem to get lost and if you have a copy they can photocopy yours for their records, that way they don't have to wait for a copy to be faxed to them from some other busy office. Whats up Rod. I also am 31 and had surgery last august 1st. I had to jump through all the hoops as well.  I was on a diet and had to make sure i knew what i was gettin myself into before i committed, my doc was very strict about my preop diet (which was southbeach) so all last spring and most of summer i was on southbeach, I lost almost 40lbs on it! I was psyched! I got down to my surgery weight of 278, i know it doesnt sound like alot in comparison to many people *****quire the surgery but knowing my past and horrible habits i considered it necessary. I am now hovering around 200Lbs, the lightest Ive been since probably 5th grade!     You wont believe the changes your in for! SO many unbelievably gratifying moments await you if you stay on track and take it very seriously! Sounds to me like you have alot going for ya, make sure and check in here as often as you can, these guys are great and we can all answer questions you may have, Ya, i know DX is long winded but hes a fountain of information! (wink)                                                  Take it easy Rodney,                                                                                         --Jason
