Abovethelaw's comments on NYT coverage. Anyone had the reduction PS done?  I'd always thought of the resulting scar as less socially acceptable than walking around with hanging skin.  Comments?

I dont think this journey should be about what is socially accepted, how do you feel about it? Maybe the scar wont be that bad? I myself would rather have the scar than hanging skin. as for what society thought about it, well, I dont think I would care as long as it was what I wanted and how I looked to myself. Do whats good for your own self esteem.

John, there’s a few here who’ve had it done… I believe the following had chest done--- *Bo McCoy, at- http://obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/members/profile.php?N=M 1020054484 *Randall Culpepper, at- http://obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/members/profile.php?N=C 1085542878 *’David’ "Fat Goy No More", at- http://obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/members/profile.php?N=B 1141166843 my most recent PS for Men Post, at- http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/men/a,messageboard/action, replies/board_id,5479/cat_id,5079/topic_id,3315319/  "...socially acceptable?" I don't know that figures into it. Sort of like circumcision. Not a conversation that comes up in casual conversation...  Yes? If you can afford it, and they are an issue? Go For It. (my understanding is the "scar" is hidden at edge of nipple / Areola) Best Wishes- Dx

Who gives a rip what is socially acceptable when it comes to what I do with my body? I've lost 350 lbs in the last year.  I look like a sharpei puppy without my clothes on.   Not to mention the rashes, and just plain discomfort in hot weather.   Socailly acceptable?  Not even a consideration.  It's more about how I feel about me, and my comfort level. I'm more than willing to trade a few scars for 350-400lbs off of me.

Just make up some real cool story about Ninjas and swords to explain the scars away.

I work in the OR and when we do these procedures, called gynecomastia (enlarged breast tissue in men) they usually make an incision around the nipple and excise it out of that cut. Now I guess if you have huge mitties then you may get a big scar but for the most part you shouldn't get a scar like a true female breast reduction would.

The other thing is that in most men, even those who have not had major weight loss but just have large breats, get it covered by insurance because it is a "medical condition".

When your wearing a shirt or even a wife beater your scars won't be visible after plastics, but depending on how much tissue is there, it can and will be visible no mater what you wear.   I'd prefer the scars Scott
