Sup boys, Sorry I posted about abdominal pain on tuesday and never responded.  After I posted I went upstairs to lay down and the pain went from bad to unbearable. I was gonna ride it out because I didn't want to have to pay the $100 ER copay for gas. I finally gave in and my wife drove me in. After a 3 hour waiting room wait and 3 or 4 off and on pain speels I got in a room. An hour later I got an x ray, another hour a visit, another hour a visit, another hour a CAT scan, and 2 hours later a room. So at least 9 hours in the ER and about 30 minutes of actual probing and proding. Had an ultrasound Wednesday morning to rule out gallbladder (which it did).  I fianlly saw the residents at about 5:45pm on Wednesday night and they said that the ultrasound was normal and they would need to talk to my surgeon. 15 minutes later he comes in and says that it's proably an internal hernia and that he wanted to sit on it and see if it reduced itself because the pain was less, but now constant instead of intermitant. We aggreed to let it sit overnight and that we would re-evaluate in the morning and try to do it as a scheduled prcedure rather than emergent. 10 minutes later he comes in and says he wanted to do it tonight and not screw around, especially if it ended up being dead bowekl and I needed a resection, he would've felt awful. So Wednesday night I had an internal hernia repair. I guess the loop of my old stomach had adhered to the abdominal wall and somehow my intestines had found its way over this hoop. An hour and forty five minute surgery and a 3 day hospital stay and I am back on the stick. I do have to watch what I eat for today I think. Right now yogurt, later, who knows.

OMG! I remember reading that post and thinking, maybe gallstones but probably like you said, just gas..Just goes to show how important it is to listen to our bodies, and our wives in some cases...Did they open you or do it lap? what will the recovery be like? were the intestines ok? how's the pain? Feel better soon!

They did laparoscopic. The only pain I have is from the belly button incision. Recovery will only be about 2 weekas or so before I can go back to work. there are no anastimosis' or anything like the bypass. Everything was ok in there, one little spot he was concerned with but it semms ok. The hard part now is to take a dump.

Tom, So watermelon had nothing to do with… Sorry you had this complication, But Good that they caught this before it strangulated and caused problems that Laproscopic surgery couldn’t handle. Take it easy and start a new. --- Sip a lot of water and baby it till it’s all healed up. Best Wishes- Dx

Glad to hear that! Colace stool softener tablets should work for the constipation - Peri-colace stool softener / mild stimulant laxative tablets should work even better...I started taking them after about a month out because of chronic constipation and no longer have any problem with regularity (has helped with the plateus too!)...

Tom, Been there done that!  Good to hear that your issue has been resolved.  I know for me once I had the hernias repaired plus having the gallbladder removed, I've never felt better!  Some of the other fellas have reported the same...we felt so good that we really had no idea how much the hernias were affecting us.  I felt good prior but feel GREAT after.  I hope you have the same experience. Happy recuperation!  Take it easy - don't try to rush things too fast. Cards Fan

Tom, Wow, that was quite an ordeal that you had to go through. I'm glad to hear that they found the cause and you were able to get it repaired. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Thanks guys. I am not sure how long I had the thing. It only started to tear the ass outta me on tuesday. My wife is hopeful that this is what was causing my 3 good weeks/one bad week routine. I am just worried about the progress I have made with my weigth lifting. I really don't want to lose what toning I have so I am hoping to not skip a beat with the eating so my body goes into starvation mode and eats away at my muscle. I am gonna have to hit the treadmill more often now that I can't lift. I'll give it a week or so before I start walking on it.

I'm sorry to learn of your problem but want to thank you for posting about it. You were wise to take action and your story is a reminder to all of us not to fool around with persistent abdominal pain. Enjoy that yogurt.
