Ben My nightly routine was to eat ice cream on the couch evernight.  Now post WLS I eat a Dannon carb & sugar control yogurt (has splenda in it) and also I always have on hand Sugar Free Jello Vanilla pudding cups - yum.  I like the vanilla the best.  Funny thing - vanilla ice cream was my favorite.  Anyway, this is just what has worked for me to fight the little man in my freezer call my name to the ice cream.    All the best Chris

I like your ideas about the SF pudding and I am going to try and freeze some yogurt too. I havent had a major dump yet but what I did have was horrible. It happened the first time I tried the low carb ice cream. I dont want to do that again so I am going to get tough on myself and stay the course as close as I can. Other's on the California board said I should try the Skinny Cow ice creams, supposed to be sugar and fat free, I might try it but I am risking dumping which doesnt thrill me, so I am very hesitant. Well, thanks for your advice guy's, you were there for me in a crisis once again.

Ben, I was,...I am addicted to ice cream.  I use to knock out a half gallon of Beyers Mint Chocolate Chip in a sitting.  Only stopping because the carton was empty.   I have had a craving or two since WLS.  I gave in and had a teaspoon or three on two occasions of some SF low Carb ice cream my wife brought home for her and the kids but decided I wasn't going back there.  I now occassionally enjoy a Skinny Cow (brand) SF ice milk sandwich or a SF Klondike crunch square but after doing two last week instead of the occassional one, I dumped and have tightened my grip on these things are probably not helping my weight loss goals or plateau breaking even though I can tolerate them and feel I am under control with the intake. My major replcaement for the need for ice cream is a more better identified need for something cold and creamy.   Smoothies,....and homemade or very cheap to provide.  Mostly ice, with some OJ, Skim Milk, fruit, or SF yogurt and the optional raw egg and or protein powder,...eaten with a spoon.  Healthy, low fat, naturally sweet and very cold,..as thick or thin as I choose to make it. And the best part,....satisfy the craving early on and they don't become an obsession for me. I am better now that I ever have been at being honest with myself about do I really want this, is it worth it, does it really taste as good as I fantizied, is this momentary pleasure worth the caloric or carb intake or risk of feeling lousy later??   I owe that to the reprograming of the post-op W:S eating retraining, especially during the liquid and soft foods phases and the incrediably small amounts of food it required to sustain life.  My perception of portions and my interpretation of portin control was very warped,...much to my denial. So ,...short answer.  When I get a craving now, espcially in the evening when we shouldn't eat 2-3 hours before bed; I usulaly do a protein bar and a nice cold water.  An occasional protion control SF klondike or skinny cow.  During the day, breakfast, lunch , or dinner, I might do a fruit smoothie.  At breakfast I always include the protein powder to help get me going for the day.  It is not a dessert as I don't do desserts aymore.  I might take a bite or have a snack but the meal focus is the protein and even at 9 months, I am lucky to finish so there is no option of dessert or the sufferring it causes anyways. You really are doing well Ben.  Don't let ice cream be your downfall or drive you back to prevoius bad habits.  Break the cycle, live the new life you've chosen. Joe

Well guys, last night I had a couple bites, and I mean only a couple bites , of the breyers low carb blah, blah, blah ice cream. It was ok, just ok, not what I was expecting or anticipating! So I realized that my craving wasnt for ice cream but it was for comfort. 35 minutes after the couple of bites, my intestines started cramping so back I was almost doubled over! I didnt go to the bathroom and I thought it was gas build up but I didnt pass that either. I dont know what it was but I am glad I tried those couple of bites and found that it wasnt worth the pain to keep seeking out ice cream! The SF popsicles tasted so good after that! I am sure I have this mind craving beat now! I dont want or think I even like ice cream anymore after that! Thanks everyone for their support and advice.
