Here i am 10 months out from 530 to 345 and am nervous that Im not going to make my 250 goal. From what i am told i have about 12 months left to get to my goal.I have had a great experience so far all my blood work is excellent no pain all my hair has come back 2 fold my energy and testosterone level is through the roof. I awake every morning like i am 16 again not bad for being 50!I have lost 4 shirt sizes and 16 inches off my waist and you ask why i am so whiny because i just dont want to wear the same shirt size i did 25 years ago.So thanks for all the prayers and kind thought and i hope each one of you gets to your desired place in life. Thanks for listening ,George

Very cool George!  Congrats on that loss, seeing stuff like that gives me more hope.  I can understand wanting to be less, but I think you definately appreciate 345 more on the way down, than you did on the way up! Dale

George, While it's true there is a honeymoon period where the weight loss is more rapid, that does not mean the weight loss will stop.  While the term is used to excess in lieu of much needed advice, it's true that WLS is a "tool".  So regardless of how far out post-op you may be - put the surgery or tool to work for you.  It's no different 12-24 months and beyond than it is the first year...BASICS, BASICS, BASICS!  Proper nutrition and supplementation, consistent exercise (combo of cardio and weight/resistance is best), getting your protein and fluid requirements in daily - this is all you need to do to continue towards your goal.   Will the weight loss slow down - sure it will.  Not a biggie!  In fact it's what is supposed to happen.  185 pound is very impressive...very impressive. Don't abandon the strategy you've used to be successful thus far...slight adjustments are likely all that's needed.  It will happen if you put a plan in place and honestly work it.  But that's the thing....you've got to work it.  Don't rely on the tool to work for you - you've got to make that happen. Congratulations on your achievements thus far and best wishes for continued success! Cards Fan "THERE IS NO TOMORROW!  NO MORE EXCUSES!  YOUR TIME IS NOW!"

George! Long time no see…. Fellow 50 year Old!-  12 months left? Unless the mob has out a contract You've got much more left in the future. Most people find that they can lose ‘quicker’ In the first 18 months to a year, But the weight can keep coming off Anytime. Just as long as the "good nutritional habits" Are set in that first year, The following years Can actually be Much, Much easier. Besides, a DS? Long-term weightloss is a major Sales point of that procedure. You’ve got that mal-absorption aspect That’ll "cover your Azz" even when you veer off track a little. Keep at it! And develop some more patience. You can’t push the river! You’ll need smaller shirts sooner than you think! Best Wishes- Dx

Have a talk with your primary doctor.  I think your personal goal weight is unrealistic.  I know that I'll probably take some heat for stating my opinion.  I agree that you can continue to lose weight past the 18 month post op window of opportunity.  However, if you look up profiles of other men who had starting weights near yours, you'll see that most of them don't get below 300 ponds without difficulty.  This is even more likely considering your age.  I started out at 571 in Nov, 2000 and I weighed 365 the last time I was weighed (about 1 month ago).  I'm 57 and have arthritis in my knees.  So, I do aquatic exercise and that's helping me.
