I am sitting here thinking that I might die before I even get to my stress test let alone my 'date.' My glucose has kept right around 130 for 5 years, sometimes a little lower and sometimes a little higher but the average is 130, on Avandia. well the big avandia scare that it may cause heart attacks scared my doctor so she discontinued me from Avandia to Metformin.  Now my glucose ranges from 275 to 363 and everything else aches with it. My Pharmacist wife says simply to switch back to the Avandia.  But wholley Gee Whiz, I don't know what to do, I just hope I survive the night!!!

Sleepin’ with your Pharmacist?!? You Win! A wife who’s a Pharmacist? Best "inside track" I’ve seen yet.  Go with her recommendation. My pharmacist loves me and all (He should, I paid his kid’s way through college) But having someone *****ally loves you? Go with it… The stress from worrying about it is more of a risk Than taking the Avandia. Does diet regulation (like sticking to Low-glycemic foods) Help out much? Even if just a little bit? Do what you can till you can get a med regulated by the Doc that’ll keep your range closer to norm. Grab a Ambien or Lunesta or some such from the missus, and get some rest! Best Wishes- Dx

'My' Pharmacist has a very dry sense of humor and she reminds me often that she could kill me and I would never suspect her because she could slip a little arsenic in my food and the only side affect is ringing in the ears and since I've already got that....I eat out a lot.  LOL   She is a great help sometimes but other times, she tries to 'doctor' us by giving us over the counter medicine that basically has the same ingredients as what the doctor would prescribe, the children and I are sure we've come on the brink of death before because of her.  LOL But I'm going to lean on her heavily during the Post op phrase of what vitamin is good for what... Thanks for your response, Bob.

My wife is an RN and when dating she told me not to screw with her, she said and I qoute "I know how to break your bones and reset them."  Now she denies saying it, but giggles... must have made a lasting impact, i still remember it 10 years later. What is your wife's opinion on liquid vitamins versus pills? Bill

The study that just came out about avandia may not be as reliable as people think. I just went to a conference last week about diabetes, and the speaker was *****ing about how the study was receiving so much attention. She said it was not as well designed as it could have been, and there is not necessarily a causative link, outside the normal patient population that may be prone to cardiac issues anyway. I feel the same way, studies come out and many docs will have a knee-jerk reactions. Look at it this way, do you have a higher risk of having a "possible" heart issue, versus running extremely high blood sugars on another drug? I bet you feel like crap having a high blood sugar as well. I have been married for almost 15 years, take my advice, trust your wife.

Yes, my wife Lori brought me home the fax that Avandia's makers sent out and said the study was a duck shoot in order to undercut the popularity of the drug and send business to other companies.  Gee whizzo... I've taken Avandia for 5 years with no side affects whatsoever that I can think of.  I think my doctor was just doing a little CYA by switching my meds.

Bob, go back on the Avandia until surgery.  It worked wonders for my sugar.  The main side affect is that it makes you gain wait.  You will drop it about 5 weeks after surgery as you will not need it anymore after that.  The blood sugar is a much higher risk because it is degenerating everything when it is that high.  Get that under control first.
