Hey guys, post RNY are their any issues with getting the requisite colonoscopy type of exams?  My question is more related to that liquid stuff they make you drink to clean you out.  Any issues with that and RNY?  I'm overdue for the exams.

I had a colonoscopy recently.  It took about 30 minutes to drink the liquid instead of 15, but it didn't seem to make a difference otherwise.  I think a colonoscopy at 2 weeks out would be difficult, but not at 6 months. ETA: Don't remember the brand, but my bowel prep was a few pills followed by a gallon jug of liquid.  The liquid was not gross tasting; I added the orange flavor packet (cherry and lemon also available) and it tasted like lightly sweetened crystal light, with a slight fiber texture.  Beats the heck out of magnesium citrate for taste, though the after-effects were similar.

There are pills you can take now for the colonoscopy.  You no longer have to drink that discusting liquid.

the drink was crappy but i took it in big quanities and got it over with. not all that bad but not that tasty. the procedure itself is just a memory. i made sure to tell him to knock me out cold which he did. he's the same guy who did my endoscopy and i was wide awake and choking to death. gave me nightmares for a week!

so he knocked me out and i don't remember a thing. they found some polops and took care of it while i was under. easy and fast but get it done at our age you don't want to take chances....carbonblob

CB!?! Ooouch!! If I had enough consciousness to choke and gag I’d have enough to grab that guy by the face!! (Actually did this to my poor doc when he cut me once while the morphine wasn’t at full strength. I cussed like a demon and grabbed him by the arm- "There’s a @&%@!!%#!!! Reason that They Use Anesthesia Ya-Know!!" Kinda scared him…. I got ‘knocked out’ immediately, and a very sincere apology when I came to. I’m a total Pain-Wuss! Best Wishes- Dx

yeah Dx, there was actually a study that some people just don't go under with whatever the stuff he was using but were not awake enough to say anything. so that was me. a huppa jube in my throat and wide awake unable to say anything. the study said it freaks out people for a couple of weeks and sure enough, i couldn't stop thinking about it. it did a number on my head. of course i'm over it now but i felt like i was drowning and i could not breath. that's really scary as you can imagine. oh well, what's done is done....carbonblob

Ask for the Dulcolax pills. Much easier than having to drink the liquid crapola. I just had a colonoscopy and a endoscopyboth about 4 weeks ago and it was a cinch. My Doc put me out as well and did both procedures while I was in la la land
