Hi All,  I've been lurking lots and posting a little on other boards.  With 37 days till the deed will be done I figure it's now time to introduce myself.  Name is Dan and I live in North Highlands, CA. I started this process at 350,  and I am following the Pre-Op 1200 cal. diet given to me to prepare for surgery. To date I have lost 67 lbs. and feeling better all the time. I suffer from high BP, Diabetes Type 2, Sleep Apnea, GERD, Joint pain, Peripheral Nueropathy and the like. Hopefully this procedure will allow me to rid myself of some of these complaints. (I know my blood sugars are down alot already without surgery, and I have reduced my insulin already from 225 units aday to 35.) I like the no nonsense approach that the guys here use to encourage and inform each other. and would be glad to be accepted into the locker room. Dan S.....

Hello Dan,  Glad to see you join us, there is plenty to learn from this group, how to prepare, how to survive your first week, out to daily living your fourth year out. As you have found most of the medications seem to fall by the way side. I was a deep snorer since age 18, like my father was all his life, but never had treatment for sleep apnea, but had to sleep in odd positions, belly down or twisted over pillow, to keep the noise down to bearable level for the wifey. The other night she turned to me and said, you do not snore anymore regardless of what position your in. I had noticed that I was getting much deeper sleep certainly more refreshing. I do not even set an alarm clock anymore I seem to be ble to wake up around 5:30-6:00 on my own.

Welcome. Congrats on the 67 pound loss so far.  Should help the surgery go much more smoothly.  It also shows that you are ready for the changes that the surgery will bring; if you can stay around 1200 calories now, post-op it will be a piece of cake (er, protein shake).  By the time you get the surgery, you may have lost enough that you'll be able to reach goal pretty quickly and concentrate on what eating/exercise it takes to maintain.
