I am back home after 2 1/2 days in the hospital from RNY.  Everything went as expected without any problems.  I did everything the docs and staff wanted of me and they said that I was doing so well that they would send me home a day early.  The one thing that I dicovered the first night is that it is impossible to get any rest in the hospital.  They give you great patient care, but waking you up every hour to take your vitals is not very relaxing.  The first thing I did when I got home was to take an undisturbed nap!  I am feeling ok, still have some gas that is slowly passing, I have no pain just some soreness in the mid section and am continueing my water sippage but will stop walking until tomorrow morning, just too tired tonight.   I had my first shower today since surgery and I feel almost human again.  A little more time and all of the fuzzyness should leave me.  I have alot of sick time saved up and am in no hurry to get back to work.   I may even take 4 weeks off if I don't get too bored staying at home.  My family thinks that I won't last more than two weeks.  I just may suprise them. Thanks to all of you that gave me your thoughts and blessings.

Great News!! Getting that rest is just as important as any part of it. Gotta let the body heal. Heating pad on the back helps the aches and the gas… Heal up and get to enjoying the time off! Best Wishes- Dx

Glad to hear you made it through alright. I support your idea to stay out for the full four weeks. While my pain was non-existent it still took me about three and a half weeks before I got any energy back - all the more reason to try really hard to stay hydrated and full of protein (your body needs it to heal) you might want to see if it is OK to start taking some sublingual B-12 tablets to support energy production. I don't see why not because they just dissolve under your tongue and absorb into your bloodstream through your mouth. I'm just not sure because I wasn't told to start taking them until I was at my three week post-op visit and even then was told they were only opitonal but recommended....anyway, what we really want to know is did you have any fun with the nurses???

Glad you're back and doing so ridiculously well.  resting and farting will bring the greatest relief.  Blowing off some steam will have a new meaning.  Just check for followers before pointing and clicking!!

Way to go PapaBear, welcome to the loser's bench.  Just take the recovery SLOW and drink as much as you can these first few days and weeks.  Don't get hung up if you can't get all the protein in just yet.  It's more important to get the liquids in. Blessings, Greg

Hey Bear, I took two weeks off, but I could have went back to after one. To be quite honest I was bored to death at home by myself. My Doc would not let me ride my motorcycle for three weeks. If I could have done that I would have taken off longer.   I sit at a desk and don't do any lifting.  pan head

Thanks for all of the support.  It would have been harder to go through without all y'all's help. I had a very restful all night rest last night.   I slept undisturbed except for one bathroom break for 10 hours.  I know that I was wore out because I normally only sleep for 5 or 6 hours a night.  I got back to my walking this morning and I had to quit after a slow quarter mile.  My dog was confused by the short distance and slow pace but she does'nt complain.  I did another quarter mile this afternoon and will do one more this evening.  I am not pushing things, I just do what I comfortable with.  I have no pain, just a little soreness and my lungs are clear.  Over all I feel pretty damn good.     I just had my first test on not eating anything solid.  The wife was microwaving a bag of butter flavored popcorn,  one of my past favorite snacks.  The temptation was very tempting but I did not partake!  So I passed my first food test.  I think that this may be a small FART. About having fun with the nurses.  I did fall in love with one of them.  She is of East Indian heritage that is a third generation American that grew up in East Texas.  Imagine her as a true Indian beauty with a Texas/southern drawl.  Boy if I was just 30 years younger!  Speaking of southern drawls I had a three day banter with another nurse from BAMA, not Alabama.  We were bantering about the pros and cons of the southern collage football teams.  There was also a nurse from Nigeria and we have a couple of conversations about her country.  I had worked near the area where she grew up back in the late 70's.   I never had a chance to wiggle my fanny openly.  I think that my "bare a$$ed reputation" had preceeded me.  I was ALWAYS covered.
