Hey Guys, intro!
Hey guys, how's it going? I posted an intro on the main RNY board a few days ago, but just discovered this one.
I'm Dale from Ohio, and have been investigating bypass for several years. 3 false starts due to various issues, and now finally going for it again. My surgery consult is this Wednesday June 6. They don't expect any problems, as I was there last year, and did all my tests, etc.. all that was missing is the 6 month supervised diet my insurance requires. Well, I'm just over 2 months into it, so we're getting the ball rolling again.
My physician is no longer with the office I'm going to, so I have to go in for another consult and meet my new physician. If everything goes well, we're hoping for surgery by fall.
Been looking thru some of your posts, and I see many similar stories, and a lot of very inspirational ones. Glad I found there was a men's forum, where our issues can be discussed!
Hope to contribute now and then!
Dale
Make yourself at home, Dale.
Good luck with the road to insurance approval. I fought that battle for several years across two insurance companies, so I can relate. Though you should keep at your diet, you might check and make absolutely sure you have to have it. After two 6-month diets, I finally learned that my insurance company didn't require a diet if I could document 3 years over a BMI of 45 (repeated phone calls to my insurance never revealed this wrinkle), so my diets weren't even submitted in the end. Suddenly, I was approved and on the table two weeks later.
A few other recommendations. First, be very studious about the monthly doctor weigh-in. Some insurance companies will make you start over if you miss a weigh-in by even a couple weeks (even if your doc was on vacation, etc.). Also, don't quit going to your monthly weigh-in until you have the approval letter in your hand. Just in case they get picky, maybe you'll be able to slice 6 "good" months out of 8 or 10 if necessary. Finally, don't blow the diet off. To be honest, I did the second time because I was so tired of the process. But with your BMI, losing some weight is not going to prevent you from qualifying for surgery, and you (and your surgeon) will be happy if you can go into the surgery with 50 or 100 pounds off, which could reduce some of the major risks and help you reach your bottom weight months earlier.
Again, welcome.

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, yelling "..........Holy Shit.......... what a ride".
Hey Dale
Welcome. I had surgery at Barix of Illinois in October of last year and had a great result. They took really good care of me and I am sure they will do the same for you. I'm glad you signed on. This men's board helped me along more than anything in my surgery process.
Stay in touch and fire away if you have any questions at all as you go along. We have guys here in every stage from just thinking about weight loss all the way to post plastic surgery. So there is someone to help with any questions you have.
I would also encourage you to join our Sunday weigh-in. Each sunday many of us post our weight from last week to this. It sure has help keep me honest.
Take care bud
Scott
Welcome aboard Dale! After the false starts I hope the 4th time will be the charm.
Post, reply, laugh, rant, support, etc....it's all good around here!
Just remember that a snap in the ass with a towel is a term of endearment not punishment and we do not have WOW moments here like they have on the other boards....we in the locker room proudly celebrate our accomplishments with a FART (FANTASTIC, AWESOME, REMARKABLE, TREMENDOUS) moment.
Looking forward to many FART's from you!
