Hey guys just a quick question as I am not sure my doc has the right answer for me.  I am coming up on my 2 year RNY anniversary and the other day I developed a kind of cramping pain in my stomach.  Its not Nausea and I don't feel sick so I am wondering if anyone else has had a pain like this.... I am going to call my surgeon on monday if it doesn't go away.  My primary isn't concerned but he doesn't treat many rny patients either so I a more paranoid about it.   I have been under a lot of stress lately...  Any thoughts? Thanks Erik,

Erik, Speaking from recent experience, you could be experiencing an internal hernia.  The flare-ups I had would start out as a dull ache and quickly become severe cramping...pain like I've never experienced before.  It felt as if my intestines were being squeezed and twisted.  The final flare-up before surgery was so severe eventually put me on the floor unable to stand.   Now, if what you're experiencing an internal hernia, it's often difficult for x-rays and/or ultra-sounds to pick them up.  Sometimes it requires a laporoscopy in order to find the hernias.   Two different doctors diagnosed me with a severe case of gas.   I've had more than my share of gas pains since RNY so I knew something was clearly wrong.  It took one call to my surgeon for him to tell me I was having classic symptoms of an internal hernia.   I had been postponing gallbladder removal for months in anticipation of internal hernias so I was scheduled to get the gb removed followed by a laporoscopy - sure enough two internal hernias, one little one and one huge one.  In and out of the hospital same day.  Had some minor issues, but really it was a piece of cake. Call your surgeon - he/she will be much better suited to diagnose you than your PCP will. There's been a quite a few of us in for hernias over the past few months - we're all doing fine and myself I feel better now than I ever have since mine was taken care of. Let us know what you find out.  Hope you feel better!  In the meantime, if you have MAJOR pains for a pro-longed period of time, demand they check you for an internal hernia immediately...it can develop into a nasty situation if you don't resolve it in a timely manner. I have been having a lot of stomach pain recently.  I have assumed it is an acid problem and have had relief from the antiacid medicines.
