50 Mile Challenge - May Finish Line
Howdy Gents!
We made it to the finish line for May. Hopefully everyone is getting to enjoy the outdoors a bit more this month. My community pool opened last weekend and it's been a blast getting to swim with the kids again. My 2 and a half year old's favorite thing to do is to jump into Mommy and Daddy's arms, kick over to the ladder and do it all over again. We quickly learned that she's going to jump whether you're ready or not, so you better be ready for her. She just doesn't have that look before you leap thing down yet. Nice to be at the pool down 225 pounds. I'm still hella flabby, but it's more loose skin than flab at this point.
Here are my numbers for May:
Last month: 126 miles
Miles May 1-10: 27 miles (5 biking)
Miles May 11-20: 52 miles (31biking)
Miles May 21-31: 47 miles (24 biking)
Total Miles through May 31: 126 (60 biking)
Goal for May: 100 miles
Percent of Month elapsed: 100%
Percent achieved towards 50 mile goal: 252%
Percent achieved towards 100 mile goal: 126%
Thanks to increased spinning classes and more of an interest in biking in general I was able to push my goal past 100 miles for the second month in a row. I'd love to hear how you ended up.
Stronger everyday.

hey dan,
well, i've got some different miles now. for the past few weeks i've been jogging with one of my dogs. she won't run unless i do! so i take her in the canyons and we run 2 to 3 miles every other day. i am amazed that i am hardly breathing that much half way through. my legs give out before my breath does. anyway, i can't wait for the weather to get just a little warmer then i'm firing up our pool and getting back to swimming. i love to swim too. it's perfect in the hot weather. oh yeah, still going to lift but now add jogging (which i secretly hate) to the milage list......lol carbonblob

Isn't it something when you can jog and not get out of breath? When the simple act of walking up the stairs at my house would wind me before....
I'm working on getting out of my head the limitations I think I have. My latest goal is to lose a bit more and start training for a 5K for this fall. Jogging is something that I know I can do now, but whenever I do it I feel weird. There's a training program at my gym that starts August 20. Gives me just under three months to drop another 25 or so. Then I'll feel better about jogging on my knees.
Congrats on all your success Bob.
Hi Gentleman! A great month of May. I purposely cut back on my cardio this month in order to give my body additional time to recover in between weight lifting sessions and I have to admit I feel better doing so...I've got more energy and I've experienced some significant gains in strength which was totally unexpected. So, compared to last month almost a 50% decrease, but it was planned ahead of time. Weights continue to be my priority. I'm in a trial and error period right now attempting to figure out the proper balance of cardio and weight/resistance that will deliver the best results.
I've posted a couple of new "After" pictures at the top of my profile if anyone cares to see how I'm progressing so far.
Here are my results for the month of May:
May 1 - May 6: 27 miles (15 walk/run + 12 stationary bike)
May 7 - May 13: 32 miles (20 walk/run + 12 stationary bike)
May 14 - May 20: 27 miles (15 walk/run + 12 stationary bike)
May 21 - May 27: 27 miles (15 walk/run + 12 stationary bike)
May 28 - May 31: 17 miles (5 walk/run + 12 stationary bike)
Total miles May: 130 miles (70 walk/run + 60 stationary bike)
Personal Goal for May: 120 miles
Percent of Month elapsed: 100%
Percent achieved towards 50 mile goal: 240%
Percent achieved towards 120 mile goal: 108%
