Tough weekend for me

It was a rough weekend for me. Late last week, I had a CAT scan done on my abdomen and pelvis. About a month ago, I complained to my doctor that I was having some pains under the ribs on both the left and right side. They did an ultrasound exam and found gall stones, no big deal really, one of the more common side effects of rapid weight loss and they are easy to treat. They also found a “mass” on my left kidney and this was the reason for the CAT scan. No one will say anything more about the “mass” until the results are in. To my way of thinking, it most likely is cancer or a tumor, neither one is a pleasant thought. I did some checking on kidney cancer and it turns out that fully one third of the cases of it can be linked to obesity.

The good news is that it was found now rather than later when it might be too late to treat (I think it is still early due to the fact that I don’t have any of the other symptoms of it other than pain, and that comes and goes). I know without any results from the tests, I am only taking a WAG and I hope all turns out well there.

Then on Saturday, I was working in my shop and wound up smashing the tip of my ring finger on the right hand. I don’t think there is much damage and it is starting to feel better now but I might loose the nail and it sure did hurt.

On Sunday night I tasted some BBQ/smoked Tri-Tip that I cooked and I didn’t chew it well enough and wound up having my stoma plugged for 24 hours. Between drinking liquid then trying to throw up, I managed to loosen it up or it broke up enough to go down. I sure won’t make that mistake again! I had plans to demonstrate blacksmithing for a charity event on Memorial Day but I was in no shape to do it.

There are lots of ways it could have been a worse weekend I am sure but I just had to vent a little bit to some great guys that will understand where I am coming from.

Thanks for reading and caring, have a blessed day

Hey man ...sorry you had such a ruff week.    As far as the meat getting stuck, I didn't have the RNY, but I've read on this forum that sipping warm water with meat tenderizer or taking papaya enzymes helps break down things that plug your stoma.   I hope that this coming week is much better for you.  Scott

Lord Wayne?!?! Are you sure there’s not an old lady in New Orleans with a bag full of catlips and chicken bones that’s pissed-off at you!?! Hope you get the "mass" fixed soon. When do you get the results? We'll keep you in our prayers! Here's to a Better Week this week! Best Wishes- Dx

Wayne,

What a weekend. You are a real ironman with a positive attitude. Its bad enough to have gallstones, but to have a possible cancer scare, smash your finger, and get a clog in the works on top of that. I though my “ouchy” sunburn was cause for a bad weekend.  My hat is off to you if you can keep on smiling on top of all that. Best of luck with the scan, I hope its something benign and your gallstones are your biggest worry.

Thanks for the kind words guys! I don't know when the results will be back, the lab people just said probably this week, It is a pain to wait for them. There is no point in fretting about things, until there is a positive answer one way or the other, there isn't much anyone can do anyway. The sun is out, the sky is clear the temps are warm and I am off work for the rest of the day, LIFE IS GOOD! I have lost 130#, 60 more to go and I have been stuck at 240 for nearly 2 weeks but this too shall pass! God bless guys, I will check back in tomorrow as I don't have internet at home, too far out in the sticks for Cable or DSL and dialup is painfully slow. Till the morning Wayne

Cal - my thoughts are with you.  Sounds like a suck-ass weekend.  But - it's like you said - the sun is out, the day is beautiful, and you can sit back and enjoy it. I can't wait to get down to 240 - I'm 300, down from my high of 652, and I'm coming off of a 3 and 1/2 week hospital stay with Bacterial Meningitis (spelling).  So I know that medical problems suck. Good luck to you, and keep us posted.

Well there you go,... Ithought I had it bad not having any shoes till a met a man with no feet. Best of luck on the out come there Wayne.  They will get it figured out.  Good of you to be so darn patient.  Keep us in the know on your diagnosis and treatment. The finger must really hurt,.... Oh yeah, let us know about that other kidney thing too.  That could be important too.
