Protein Bars

Hey guys, when I was doing Atkins a couple of years ago at times I was relying heavily on protein bars for my protein intake.  What I found is that I would not lose weight while I ate them.  After doing more research and studying my own body, I found out that the FDA does not categorize sugar alcohols and glycerine as sugar or carbs.  But my body does.  My blood sugar would spike when I ate one of them, and hence that killed any weight loss.  What I found out is that they actually had more sugar than a Snicker's bar.  My blood sugar would spike to levels actually HIGHER on the protein bars than it would on a Snickers.  Snickers would get me there faster, but I would get to the same levels (245-250) with a protein bar.  Cheerios and white bread did the same thing to me. So if you are on a plateau or not losing as fast as you thought you should, try cutting out the protein bars and substitute with a good protein shake (or look for one without glycerine or sugar alcohol).  A good protein shake that works for me is Champion Nutrition Pure Whey Stack.   Hope this helps. Hey Greg... You are so right, no matter how they package it, it's caliries in -calories out.... and net carbs is a marketing ploy...but everyone is looking ofr an easy fix.... Not to go on a tyraid about this.. but when I was early out, I did some research on carbs... You know there is a specific laboratoy test for fats, and proteins....and that everything else is lumped into carbs That is why fiber is lumped into carbs...fiber is not digested in the small bowel, it is fermented in the large bowel, and gives off heat to support functions down there....that is why we do not count it... but the definitions are such that the science people fight about it....a big mess ok enough from me... Greg,   Thanks for the valuable info!  I "use" to do protein bars but now, I'm so hooked on my protein shakes.  Even at almost 3 years out I do 2 shakes a day!  I think that is one reason that I haven't gained back any weight.  I love my protein shakes.   I had no idea about the protein bars.  Thanks again!   Be blessed!
