Hey boys, I'm back, had hernia surgery yesterday and all went great.  They were able to complete the repair laproscopically.  They put in one huge piece of mesh to cover the whole area and a smaller piece on the side.  I feel great, a little sore and I have to take it easy for awhile.  Came home this afternoon.  I tell you, theres a big difference post op between 432 pounds and 188 pounds.  I was up walking the halls with no effort just hours after surgery.  Couldnt wait to get out this morning.  Thanks for all the well wishes from my WLS brothers here.  Once I get healed up from this, I start my surfing lessons, one of my goals after WLS.  Take care all and enjoy the long weekend. Wow! Congratulations on your full recovery. I know the hospital stuff is no fun. Could you tell me what you were experiencing or what kind of pain you had before you found out you had a hernia? My surgeon thinks I have a small hernia somewhere. The CT scan cannot pick it up so he's going to have an expert read the CT scan carefully. My pain comes and goes. What was yours like? Take care! 457 lbs before surgery -258 lbs!!!!

Hey Gus, luckily I didnt have too much pain from this one.  It started off as a small lump and got progressively larger, finally about the size of a grapefruit.  The only reason I put it off for so long was because I thought I would have it fixed along with a tummy tuck.  Turns out I may not need the tummy tuck.  I've had hernias before my WLS that didnt go so pleasantly, including one that became strangulated and required emergency surgery in the middle of the night. Best to determine if you have one and take care of it before it gets out of hand.  Most doctors can determine if its a hernia just by feeling it.  Good luck. John

Welcome home John, I also have a hernia which I have had years before my WLS. My doctor was going to repair it when he did my RNY but because my insurance will only pay for the repair once he decided to wait until I got a lot of weight off. The more weight I lose the more and more it sticks out, it is now about the size of a cantaloupe. I was dreading having it repaired but it sounds like you didn’t have much problem so I guess it won’t be so bad . I hope I can get it repaired by the end of the year, in down to 393 and I am not sure how much my doctor wants me to lose before he will fix it. I am glad everything went so well for you.

Terrific news John.  How go things in Boynton Beach?  We lived down there until about 6 years ago in Westchester CC off Military Trail.  Your progress is just amazing.  I bet that Boynton sun is a lot easier to deal with at 188 than it was at 432. Wave to those thunderstorm clouds in FL for me.  Best clouds anywhere.  Miss that about FL.   Congrats again, and hope you are back 100% here real soon. Blessings, Greg

Hey Greg, thanks for the kind words, yeah, there's nothing better than the south Florida sun, and the thunderstorms are awesome, its the beginning of the rainy season here, though we havent had much so far. We live in Cypress Creek, east of Military at Lawrence and Old Boynton Road, not far from where you lived.   I am doing just great, amazing how well I feel given the cir****tances.  Hopefully can drag my wife down to the beach later today, just to sit at Boynton Inlet and watch the guys fishing.  Take it easy.
