Looking for a scale.....

Hi guys, I'm looking to pick up a new scale and wondering if there was a particular brand/model that any of you coud recommend?  I'm not that concerned about the kind that give you body fat percentages (as I've read that those can be pretty inconsistent/inaccurate), just the kind that will give me accurate and reliable weight readings so I can track my progress.... Thanks in advance, Bill

I am absolutely no help here.  I bought a cheap one about 5 years ago and the P.O.S is not only always wrong, but it's not even wrong in a consistent way.  Why have I not thrown it out?  Because I am CHEAP.  I just go the surgeon's office once a week on Monday because it's right net door to my office. Maybe you should try Epinions.com?  They rate just about everything.

I like my Tanita digital scale, I love not having to estimate and try to count the tick marks. Digital is the way to go. The one I have does the body fat percentage thing but it can vary some depending on your hydration levels. One great thing about it though is that it remembers what you weighed the last time and it also calculates how many calories you need to mantain that weight. It set us back about a hundred bucks. It must be a pretty good brand because I noticed it is the same brand that the WLS clinic at Duke uses.

I just bought a digital scale from Walmart for about $35.00.  It seems to work OK, and is a health meter.  Now that I'm under 300 pounds, there are alot more choices when it comes to scales.   Also, I wish you all the best as I noticed your surgery date is coming up in a few weeks.  I have to admit it has made a world of difference for me and my wife, and I'm only just over 2 months out. --Dave

Thanks for the good wishes, Dave! I just read the blog on your profile and your new pictures show the changes!  Save a spot for me on the loser's bench, ok?  Bill

Thanks! You'll be dropping the quick rate before you know it with your surgery coming up in a few weeks!  Most people see their biggest "quick" drop in that first month after surgery.  Looks like you're already off to a good start! --Dave

I have this one by Tanita... http://www.amazon.com/Tanita-HD-351-Digital-Capacity-Weight/ dp/B000KZOJ2U/ref=sr_1_2/104-6602459-2439954?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&q id=1180055201&sr=1-2 Comparing it to 3 different scales at my PCP office, it's extremely accurate.  Plus, I like that it has memory... in fact, FIVE memory buttons so your whole family can keep track if they wish.  Nice large easy to read LCD numbers, a HUGE platform to stand on, and a very low step-up height. This link isn't a bad price... I actually paid more for mine about 8 months ago, but I feel it was worth it, even now that I'm under 200 that just about any scale will read me, I like the accuracy and the memory.... and that it measures in 2/10 LB (0.2, 0.4, 0.6, etc) increments.  Though if you shop around, you might be able to find it for around $50-60... I paid $80 at the time, but it was free for me as I get reward points through a frequent traveler hotel program.

Hi Bill,  I have the Tanita HD351 as well. I have two other digital scales that aren't worth a damn. One is a weigh****chers brand that I bought at wal-mart. What I don't like about them is you don't get them same weight twice.  The Tanita is very accurate and will give you the same weight no matter where you stand on it. Large platform and very low to the ground. It is the same brand that my surgeon uses. For the money it would be hard to beat. pan head

I use the Health-O-Meter from Wal-Mart. It has no frills, but it is very accurate. The cost was about 20-25 dollars. It's digital and reads in 0.1 increments. I've weighed myself with one foot on the scale, standing backwards, on my toes, over and over, but no matter what I do, the weight is always the same.

One more vote for the Tanita HD351! Goes up to 440# in 0.2# increments. I can step off and back on to get the same reading every time.  It has memory buttons for up to 5 users. I also turned to this board for their most excellent advice on scales and have never been dissapointed with mine! HTH
