50 Mile Challenge - Checkpoint #2
Howdy Gents!
We're flying through May and taking on new challenges. See Floyd's post below on the 5K, A.J.'s Triathalon experience, 7.5 mile bay to breaker walks, etc. I had one this weekend as well as I participated in a 14 mile ride sponsored by a local nonprofit yesterday. Took a couple of hours to complete with lots of breaks at the tops of "gentle rolling hills (my fanny)". Truly exhilarating.
Here are my numbers so far:
Last month: 126 miles
Miles May 1 - May 10: 27 miles (5 biking)
Miles May 11 - 20: 52 miles (31biking)
Total Miles through May 20: 79 (36 biking)
Goal for May: 100 miles
Percent of Month elapsed: 66%
Percent achieved towards 50 mile goal: 158%
Percent achieved towards 100 mile goal: 79%
So how are you doing? In a sprint towards the finish line with the Memorial Day weekend coming up? Or are you on pace and will meet your personal goals with no problems? Would love to hear any updates you have.
Stronger everyday.

Hey there, Dan
Life's been crazy here... and, I missed Checkpoint #1. But, I'm here with my totals for May, thus far.
No mileage goals for me during the Tri season... Just getting the required work in to prepare for each race. Next up: Black Bear Sprint Triathlon in the Poconos (Jim Thorpe, PA) - Sunday June 3rd.
1/2 mile swim / 18 mile bike (with killer hills!) / 5K run
So... here's my combined totals for Checkpoints 1 & 2
Miles May 1 - May 21: 154 miles
98 Bike / 36 Run / 6 Swim / 14 Elliptical
Hard week of training coming up now thru Sunday and then a week for tapering off & carb-loading!
After a year of avoiding carbs like the plague, it's weird to start taking in so much the week leading up to a race... especially since I don't tolerate rice or pasta well. Lotsa bananas, fiber cereal & sweet potatoes comin' up!
See Ya At The Finish Line.
Be Well,
A.J.

DP,
Thanks for staying on top of us.
I didn't do so well at first Chkpt either but have picked-up the pace in prep for this checkppoint.
So here's my walking & jogging numbers for May:
Week 1 - 5.5 mi
Week 2 - 13.5 mi
Week 3 - 18 mi
subtotal - 37 as of 20 May
goal of 50 ( 13 left in 11 days; goal to exceed goal,...we'll see)
I am trying to keep my distance as I am prepping for an 8K and and a 13 K in Oct and Nov respectively. My first 10K was 1:34 or 94 minutes March 31. I did a 10K for practice last week (17 May) in 1:20 (80 min). I have been able to increase my jogging range to 2 mi at a stretch. I am working to improve my jogging to walking ratio so I can drop more time and so I can eventually jog the whole distance, then I'll work on picking-up the pace more. I am also workiing on stride (so I go forward more than I go up and down and cover more ground per stride than pitter-patty babysteps that make you tired but walkers are passing you) and breathing techniques as well.
Thanks for doing this and for you other guys sharing your successes that help keep me out there working on improving.
Joe
So many things to keep straight there Joe! I'm hoping to begin training in August for a 5K run in October. I want to lose a bit more so it'll be easier on my knees. I'm hoping to get down to around 275 or so for it. Another goal to shoot for. Have fun discovering what you can do on the running training.
Hi Guys,
At the last checkpoint, I blathered (sp?) on about being super motivated, but I didn't quite follow through. Well, at least not the way I would have liked to!
My plan is to finish May strong......so on to the numbers:
Last month: 192 miles
Miles May 1 - May 10: 41 miles (27 stationary biking, 14 walking)
Miles May 11 - 20: 43 miles (31 stationary biking, 12 walking)
Total Miles through May 20: 84 (58 stationary biking, 26 walking)
Goal for May: 150 miles
Percent of Month elapsed: 66%
Percent achieved towards 50 mile goal: 168%
Percent achieved towards 100 mile goal: 84%
Percent achieved towards 150 mile goal: 56%
