Ken, I hit my first plateau at week 14 and have seemed to do one a month ever since,...but there is definintely a rapid weight drop at the end of the plateaus.  Mine have lasted 3 to 4 weeks, then I'll drop 2-4 pounds a day for 2-4 days in a row or like 8-12 lbs over the next week.  The up news is, the body seeems to adjust size even though the scales seem stuck.  It is during the plateaus I have changed to smaller sizes; pants, shirts, shoes, watchbands, rings. Walkng and jogging help me mentally and I believe they help encourage the braking of the plateau as well,..the whole burning more than taking in logic. Hang tuff, you are dropping at a really good rate.  My CNP at the surgeons office assured me the honeymoon isn't over for 12-18 months and some go 24 before they level off and stop losing (RNY; lap or open). Feeling much better, Joe, and I appreciate you writing.  I'm definitely feeling loss in clothes even though I'm not showing it on scales.  I'm more amazed every day at the human body in general and how it responds to thoughts, suggestions, etc.  It's weird for me that I can feel the loss but not see it, but that's part of the mystery of having this body, so it's all good.  Congrats on your loss!!  Ken

What a coincidence?!  I have been at 232 - 236 for nearly 2 months now.  I drink a LOT of liquids during the day so I don't worry at all about the swing. I'm just chalking it up to a plateau at this point and hoping it will again head downward soon.  Only 12 pounds to go for that glorious 100 mark!! I'm hoping for that FART by 6/23 which would be 1 year after my before pic was taken and 10 months post-wls. You'll be fine.  Just let it ride.  I'll take a plateau for 6 months at 232 ANY DAY compared to the 320 plateau I have been on for 15 years! Continued success to both of us.

Hey Dan, Our surgery dates are a week apart. I'm sort of stuck at 239, kind of weird, huh. I've noticed that I'm getting smaller, even though the scale hasn't moved in 3 weeks. My weight loss has been different than it was in the beginning. First, I'll go 3 weeks with no loss, then I'll drop about 4-5 pounds, then I'll usually go another 3 weeks, then repeat. I've been losing like this since the end of January. I've lost 25 pounds like this. One thing that usually gets it going again is doing something different. If you're not a hiker, go hiking with the family. I did this the last time we went camping and it really made a huge difference. I lost 5 pounds in a couple of days. If not hiking, then try something you don't normally do. Something that will challenge you physically.  Good Luck Plateau Breaking Gentlemen! Ron

Hey Dan, that IS a coincidence.  Maybe the mid 30's are a magic number that the body needs to take a big break before we break on through.  Congrats on your 88 pound loss and good luck on your upcoming 10 month anniversary. Ken

Ken, I’m clearly a full day late and a dollars short…. BUT- I lost 195 of my total 206 in the first year. I had some "stalls" that lasted for about 3 weeks- One at 3 months out, another at 7 months out, and one for about 2 weeks at 9 months out… They all passed. What did I do to "break them?" Several different things that didn’t seem to have any effect at all. I upped my water intake, added a little more exercise, Dropped my Carb intake lower, (although I think this did have an effect on my first stall) But the one thing that seemed to make the most difference? Time. I just kept doing what I had been doing, checked to make sure I was not getting too many calories, and after 3 weeks, the weight started dropping again. Make sure the ONE THING You Don’t Do, No Matter What, Is to get Discouraged. Even counting your last three weeks of ‘no loss,’ You’re averaging better than 4 lbs. a week. That’s 208 a year! So far, you’re kicking my loss rate in the dirt! Keep it Up!! Best Wishes-Mike Wazowski Dx
