First 5K in 15 years

Guys, I finally took the plunge and ran my first 5K race in about 15 years.  Just to think that 13 months ago I couldn't walk across the room very easily.  A co-worker told me that this race had some hills, and I thought "no problem, I can do a little hill".  Damn, what's the definition of a hill.  There was a sign that said, "Steep grade, proceed with caution".  This race ran around a lake TWICE.  The first lap wasn't too bad, but the second one kicked my butt.  My goal was to complete the race in less than 45 minutes.  I finished in 32:50.  I was pretty pleased with my results and can't wait for the next race.   Scott, thanks for the 50 mile challenge.  I know it really helped me get ready for this. Rad! I'm so glad to hear it. Good time, too. It must feel great to beat-down an event like that.

Attaboy Floyd! Way to get back in the game. Awesome. Be careful though. If Uncle Sam hears your back in "fightin' form" they may decide they need you back on active duty for a few more years. Keep it up and you'll be swimming across that lake, as well as running the 5k next year.  DD

DD, What do you mean, back in "fightin' form".  I was never in this shape the entire 20 years I was in the Navy.  Their biggest fear now is that I'll be around alot longer collecting this retirement pay.  LOL Thanks.

Nice Floyd!
Under 35 minutes is a solid time!
Considering the hill and a 15 year layoff... right around 10:00 minute mile pace is quite respectable.

Congrats!

Be Well,
A.J.

Thanks AJ.  At least I didn't finish last.  I was 128th place out of 155.  10th place in my age group. I have something to improve on now tho.  The 74 year old guy that passed me at the 2 mile marker better watch out next race.  LOL
