Low body fat and vascularity
Ok, a question for my fellow lifters and cardio guys out there.
Some of you guys do a lot of circuit training, some runners and some serious lifters. A weird observation has been brought to my attention. I have ugly veins! Because of my low body fat and amount of training I have huge veins running all around my arms. Also in my stomach and legs.
Well, anyway, I was wearing a nice polo shirt and I've noticed people kind of looking at my veins and then in just the past couple of days 3 people commented on it! what the hell is that? so i asked my g/f if it bothered her and she said they're ugly and weird looking because they move all over the place when i move my hands or arm....lol. i mean she's ok with it and everything. she knew me when i was lifter over 20 years ago so she's cool. it's just weird because even my crew is commenting on this. I've had veins before when i was in shape but i've never had this low a body fat before so they are freakin' huge. even the nurses comment on them when they draw blood.
so, any of you guys get this? are veins really that creepy. i always thought they were a sign of hard workouts and low body fat. something every lifter who competed worked their asses off for. so all this time i'm thinking i've accomplished an achievement only to be told it's ugly. this hardly bothers me but just a weird feeling since now i feel a little self concious in my short sleeve shirts.
great, felt insecure when i was fat and now being stared at for being thin with ugly veins.....lol carbonblob

Hey CB,
I've got the body fat down to around 10% and my veins are highly visible now, as well. My forearms look like 3-D road maps and the veins are popping out across my biceps & shoulders as well.
I don't really feel it's ugly, though. Nobody has commented negatively about it... I think it has a "healthy" look.
Any woman that mentions it is probably secretly turned on and any guy that mentions it is most likely jealous
I had to have a blood test done a few weeks ago, and the nurse took one look at my arm and said, "looks like this is gonna be easy."
Before WLS, I used to dread having blood drawn. They'd have to stick me 20 times before they could find under all that fat. Now, one stick... and done.
In no way am I self conscious about this. I'm wearing sleeveless t-shirts whenever I can and considering the veins a badge of honor and a testament to all the hard work I've done.
Be Well,
A.J.

yep AJ, i figured you would have the road map look for sure. i used to hate getting sticks too because my blubber hid my veins big time.
i have some sleevless tees too and now i feel a little weirded out. the veins in my avatar pic are tiny compared to what they look like now. they just blew up. of course i really stepped up my workouts and that combined with my body fat being low really makes them jump out. haven't figured the psycology yet but you may be right. they might actually fascinate some people i guess. funny! keep up the great work my man......carbonblob

The veins are definitely popping here too. But I've had no comments myself so haven't given it much thought as to what people think. My body fat percentage was around 10% at last check and it was at that time I was beginning to notice the veins in my calves and my thighs too....that was AWESOME!! I've busted my a$$ and those veins are proof of it! I wear them proudly!
Just tween us fellas - during the workout after I complete my sets I watch for those bad boys pop out! I waited almost 40 years to see the damn things! If they're ugly - I don't care one bit! To me, they're freakin COOL!
Let's wear those veins proudly my friends - we've earned it!
