Home From the Hospital
Hi
Had my RNY surgery on Monday the 14th. I was released on Wednesday early AM for the 2 hour drive home. With a little help from liquid vicodin, I was able to sleep in my own bed for a couple of hours last night.
The surgery was preformed with no issues - Doctor said the 75 pound preop weight loss made me an ideal lap patient (I have this mental image in my head that with all the loose skin on my abdomen I was probably blown up like a circus tent)
I had some discomfort and nausea afterwords but didn't hesitate to call for some chemical relief (as mentioned by Dx in a recent post) Decided not to be my normal (just tough it out) self but instead decided to use whatever was available to help with the pain. Made it so much easier to walk and get rest when the drugs they use make you feel so much better.
They had me up and walking within 3 hours after surgery. With all the information I had read on the Men's forum and ObesityHelp I just felt like an informed consumer at each step of the way. I was able to relax and concentrate on healing rather than worrying about what was going on.
I am working on getting in the water a couple of sips a time, knowing from you all that warm liquids tend to go down a little smoother has made a big difference in getting the fluids in. The SF yogurt on the 2 week mushy diet is a favorite right now.
Just wanted to say thanks for all the info as well as the kind words and thoughts
Jeff
Kudos on your pre-op weight loss, your WLS research and preparation, and keeping your head-in-the-game. Glad things are going well and you accepted the drugs as a good thing.
Keep chuggin forward. I'll wait patiently for the fart moments as they start/continue to occur.
Get some sleep and keep walking and passing gas!
Hey Jeff,
Congrats on the successful surgery - sounds like things are right on track. I'm 9 weeks post-op this week, and fully healed and back in the throws on life. Following all the post-op instructions, and having a positive attitude go a long way..............
Keep doing what you're doing - it just keeps getting better and better from this point on.
Congrats again - keep up the hard work,
Chuck
