Guess I am not up on my supplements as I should be. Cards Fan was telling me about the importance of thiamine. My question is what is the best kind and dosage to take? What do you guys take?

Thanks. (Not so Big Al)

Al, B-1 is one of those that shows up as a problem with RNY’ers. Some docs still don’t stress it. The ASBS (http://www.asbs.org/ ) didn’t have it "on their radar" until around 2002 when a number of studies on longterm post-ops showed that it was very important. My doc had me on 100 mgs a day for the first 9 months then dropped that back to every other day. Same with folic acid- (400 mcg daily then dropped back to every other day) It is essential during the rapid weightloss stage. B-12, B-1, and folate are the vitamins/nutrients that crop up as problems for folks who have had gastric bypass. (Vits A,D,E & K for the DS’ers.) Calcium is another, and of course Protein…. All are under-utilized/absorbed due to by-passing some of the duodenum. Best Wishes- Dx

That’s a Great Movie!! I like al of the "backstage" stuff…. It’s ‘homey’ for me… "The Show Must Go On!" even when that means painting a few boobs! I've actually painted a woman in a "nudie suit" once...Mystery of Edwin Drood....It was cold, nipples did what nipples do, it was almost embarrassing, then we laughed through it. I admit it's an odd way to meet someone- "Hi, my name is___, and I'll need you to spread your legs just a bit and hold still..." Best Wishes- Dx

Al, I take 100mg thiamine a day.  This was recommended by my nutritionist.  My blood work showed I was under the normal limits.  Be sure to ask your Doc or nutritionist.  I bought mine over the counter @ The Vitamin Shoppe. Kent 357/281/189

I do 1 100mg of Thiamine a day. Besides the calcium and vits, I also do Beta Caratine (vit A). I know, so many people take different stuff.
