Too Fat To Be President

Shucks! Here I go and have WLS to lose enough weight to run for office and it turns out I'm still too fat to make a good president! Maybe in 2012 I'll have a teeny enough BMI to steer the ship of state? Check out Richard Cohen's Washington Post op-ed "Politics by the Pound." Here's a link (maybe). http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/05/14/AR2007051401214.html?hpid=opinionsbox2 If it doesn't work, log on to www.wp.com and click on the Opinion link.

Thanks for pointing out the article Doug.  Interesting reading and very true.  I especially liked the one that if Al Gore drops 1.5 lbs, they're taking that as a sign he's declaring his candidacy. Bobby

I like this part, Doug:

'Now, though, comes the exciting news that some people -- and you know who you are -- are supposed to be fat. This is what nature intended, what the body wants, what the genes demand. This incredibly good news is contained in a new book by New York Times writer Gina Kolata, "Rethinking Thin: The New Science of Weight Loss -- and the Myths and Realities of Dieting."  '

Cool that the author made the point that while both Clinton and Bush are able to stay thin, their ability to stay lean had nothing to do with self control or wisdom in other areas of their lives. I think this is something that all people with weight problems (and without) need to remember.

Best Wishes,

Dave

Interesting reading.  Unfortunately we are judged, within seconds of meeting a new person, on our appearance. Usually these assumptions are proved false, but how many never get a chance to prove it? Obese people are the last group that it is socially acceptable  to discriminate against, and ridicule. Sad, since so many of us are now suffering from obesity. Thanks for the link. DD
