Tomorrow

Tomorrow is my big day!

I am nervous and I am excited. I feel good right now and I know I won’t feel this good again for a while afterwards, but I will feel even better soon. I am not real sure what I weigh right now as the scales seem to differ from place to place, but my bathroom scale this morning said 248. My blood pressure is a little high it was 143/87 last night, and I actually had a low blood sugar about midnight.

My goals for WLS are fairly straight forward, 1) to control my diabetes and not experience any negative side effects from it for many years to come. 2) To be able to keep up with and have the energy to play with and enjoy my 7 year old twin boys. 3) Participate in a 5K run and not walk. 4) (My vanity goal) inseam equal to or greater than waist.

I do not yet know my surgery time or if Kim will be out of jury duty. My dad will be taking me to Park Rapids if Kim cannot. I will find out this information this afternoon and will post it on the boards. I have had several offers from friends and family to get me there and tend to me, all the way from people at work to my 90 year old great uncle Les, and not to mention several beautiful ladies from the boards.

I am expecting to be in the hospital 3- 4 days; I know that I will try to enjoy my stay as much as possible. I have never been hospitalized over night; I have spent many hours in a hospital during my 20 years as an EMT but never much as a patient. I will be alone between my surgery and my discharge; mainly because of the distance 150 miles and price of gas $3.19, so I hope to hear from you during my stay.

Thanks to all of you for your loving kindness and support.

Brian

Brian, Good luck with your surgery.  We will all be praying for you.  Just follow your doctor's orders and everything will be fine.  Don't worry about the scale.  The weight will fall off you quicker than you think. As for you diabetes, I am 4 months out and off all my diabetes and blood pressure meds.  Bluce glucose is steadily between 100 and 110.  Not the greatest but certainly acceptable. If nothing else, the surgery was worth getting that under control. Keeps us informed as to your progress. Rich

Hey Brian, It's all going to work out fine. Soon you'll be thinking that you should have put all that energy you spent fretting over this procedure into something else. Can you get an internet connection at your hospital? Hope so, I'll be checking this site often over the next few days. Sounds like your wife couldn't get out of jury duty. You'll have to have one those young nurses tuck you in. Just remember to check your modesty at the door and enjoy the experience. Thoughts and prayers are with you buddy!! See ya soon. Doug

Good Luck, we will keep you in our prayers.  I understand about the being alone.  I'm 250 miles from the hospital that I will have my surgery at.  I'm now  just waiting on the psy-evaluation and the surgery date.  Mike Ray

Hey Brian, It's amazing how fast all those co-morbities fade away after surgery. I had high blood pressure and sleep apnea, both were gone a couple of weeks after surgery. Yours will fade away fast, too. All that will be left after that is to lose down to your goal weight. Once you're there, you won't have to worry about the co-morbs coming back. I'm sure WLS is going to add a number of healthy, and happy years to your life. The pain and liquid/pureed diet are rough while you're going through it, but it goes by quickly and you never have to deal with it again once it's done. Enjoy your new co-morb free life. The S/F popsicles and jello they give you in the hospital are gifts from heaven. You'll know what I'm talking about soon enough. Ronnie

Brian, My thoughts and prayers will be with you tomorrow.  Dr. Smith, Sandy, and the wonderful nursing staff of St. Joseph’s will take good care of you.  Drink your blue water, do your laps up and down the hallway, and they’ll parole you by Friday.   We still have to get together over a cup of coffee sometime this summer.    Good luck and God speed.

May Your Lantern Burn Bright,
