I'm learning - Bad Diet

Hope I can train this "old dog" new tricks.   As of Friday I was hoovering 317 / 318.  (down from 329 in April) Sunday morning I am back to 319.  Guess, I'm eating the wrong things.  I have been on Slimfast and a apple for Breakfast and Lunch then a sensible supper keeping my daily calories around 2,000.  Yesterday I screwed up, slimfast and banana (extra calories) for breakfast, 3-fat free tortillas, scrambled eggs and a table spoon of salsa, oh yes, a few potatoes in the eggs.  Then that night 3-scrambled eggs, with a can of fat free chili and fat free crackers.  Then to make it worse, this morning I had the 3-tortillas again with the eggs, salsa, etc.  I went out to "Fitday.com" and wanted to cry...  Then the scale confirmed it.  I guess the rest of this day I will just have a slimfast for lunch and now supper. I'm depressed but hopefully can learn from my mistakes.   Still waiting word on the Psy eval date.  I start  a weight management class tomorrow (mandatory for the VA).   Still no word on the surgery date, but I am jumping through all the hoops the VA has for me, so maybe it won't be much longer (a few months). Hey Mike, Don't be so hard on yourself that you sabotage your good plan. We all, I bet, have screwed up when it comes to diet changes. It's the nature of our problem. Don't forget, you didn't just let things go. You checked in at fitday.com., analyzed where you might be slipping up, and posted here. All good moves! So do your best to eat wisely for the rest of the day and then take every advantage you can of the mandatory weight management class tomorrow. Slow progress is still progress--and we're here for you as move forward. Good luck.

Hang in there Mike.  As Doug mentioned, everyone's going to slip up sometime.  Don't forget to get some exercising in to help "cushion" those lapses. Bobby

Ok, now you did it!  You've said the "E" word.   hahaha!   Starting Tomorrow, I'll begin a walking phase around the neighborhood.  My wife and a neighbor walks about 5 days a week.  Guess I get to join in... Mike

Mike, Don't be so hard on yourself. I've been eating like a pig these days, too. I think my wife sees me as too thin and keeps bringing home sweets and making cookies and everything. Everyone has issues with this. What you ate doesn't look that bad, actually.

I hope you won't be depressed. We're all fighting to change our body types and nature doesn't give up easily.

Exercise should take the weight off, even with what you ate.

It's 4:15 a.m. here(I haven't been able to sleep past 5:00 since RNY)  and I'm getting ready to jog down to the track and do some sprints followed by weights. I think that will keep me from gaining back any fat anyway - I hope.

Good Luck,

Dave

Wow, jogging, sprints and weights.  I haven't been able to jog in about two years.  Walkind doesn't seem to bother me until after... (knees hurt).   I look forward to the day when I can jog again. Watch out (New York Marathon) here I come... Mike

You don't say in your post which type Slimfast you're using.  The original type is rather high in sugar and carb content and low in fat content.  Since the low carb diets have become popular, they have introduced a low carb version.  Separately, some of us actually do better by no****ching the scale so closely.  You're eating well and the weight will come off.  Just make sure you get your fluids and exercise along with following that sensible diet.  It took me a long time to start exercising, but it has made a big difference even 2 years post op since my most recent RNY.

I have found a High Protien Slim Fast with lower carbs. 2g Carb, 15g Protein. About 190 calories total.  Its hard to find in quantities but, Sam's Club has been know to stock the 15 packs on occasion. I drink one as a breakfast on my way out the door at 5:15 AM. I have another at lunch. I split one as a snack thoughout the day. Militant Post-Op DW, makes the standard 2oz dinner that falls right through my, as of yet, unadjusted band. I have been home sick this last week and have found that getting of the daily routine has wreaked havoc on my progress. I was at 301 and hovered back up to 305 for the last 4 days or so.  El Sucko Jeff
