Product Warning
Buyer Beware,
Yesterday I purchased a kithcen/food scale to begin weighing my portions. I bought a Salter House Model 1015 WH.
I musy note it was packaged well. The box opened with no problem. The tray for the scale was heavy weight cardboard with a slot for the 9V battery and sspot for the scale.
That was the highpoint of the night. The directions (in 11 Languages) showed icons direction you to match up the positive and negative terminals. It just didn't communicate to you that the slot for the battery could not be opened with fingernails etc. I finally pryed it open with a paring knife. Not a safe habit to follow.
Then I was please the the 888:888 display changed ot a zero (0) just as promised. What they don't tell you that when you switch from oz. to kg. You will need to use a magnifying glass. I have20/25 vision and use three x reading glasses and I could not differentiate between the 2 labels. You would think with oz being the same size letters and kg showing one stem going up and one going down that you can relay on that. Don't bother, my wife even tried and said that she could not read labeling.
I sent a communication to the company and if their customer service helps relieve this problem, I will let you know. On the other hand if they blow me off you will surely know.

Hey Doc,
Thanks for the heads-up, which I read with my browser font size set way up!
Perhaps there is a company website that has info about your scale?
Related topic: I have come to hate packaging! Call me petty, lazy, feeble, or cranky, but more and more frequently I find myself grumbling, swearing, huffing and puffing as I try to open blister packs and all sorts of other consumer-be-damned forms of packages.
Sorry for getting carried away, but even thinking about being frustrated frustrates me nowadays!

I, too, beleive that there is vast liberal conspiracy to disrupt social order by making packaging virtually impossible to open. I have a two year old boy. His stuff is triple harder to open. I use the poultry shears. They cut through all the wire ties, plastic thigymabobs and duflatchies that secure consumer prodacts as though they are in Fort Knox.
As for scales, we use the postal scale that was sent to us free from the internet postage stamp service we use for the business. It self calibrates everytime I turn it on which is great when you want to weight the food without having to subtract the weight of the container. Chaep as can be but, works for me!

Stop by a Weigh****chers Meeting and see if they are still selling kitchen scales. I got a simple one from them years ago (about 15 yrs ago) and it still works fine. It's just a simple balance arm type scale and is very inexpensive. Otherwise, either look in one of the kitchenware stores or check Walmart or Target online. They seem to carry everything imaginable.
