1 Week Post-Op
Surgery was one week ago today. The pain from sitting/standing, etc. is eased quite a bit, in fact haven't taken any Loritabs in 2 days. Its there, more like "discomfort" but not enough for meds.
Still having trouble with the drinking, not so much eating cause I'm only eating popsicles, jello, pudding and cooked cereal. Oh, and my Boost or Unjury shake. Water, crystal light, etc. seem to give me a stomach ache, kind of like chugging a bottle of coke too fast. I'm taking small sips and waiting in between. Visiting nurse was here today and said it sounded like I was swallowing too much air. Another thing, BM's? I must have the urge about 5 or 6 times a day and most times I end up just"farting". Any actual movement is diarhea, but I figure with downing nothing but liquids thats to be expected. My follow-up is next Thursday. So whatcha think?
Don
Sounds like you're right on track. Right on! Be glad you're farting...if you weren't it would be real "hurty". Glad to hear things are going well. Don't freak about not being able to get all your protein/water easily. Once the swelling goes down and things settle in it will get much easier. Then the fun begins

Hey Don....
We have an old saying that has fallen off the boards lately....
"Never trust a fart"...
I think that says it all
you are right on schedule
keep in touch
Russ
Don, Yep,
sounds like the typical.
The transition from too much Pain meds to not quite enough is tricky.
It gets easier each day.
Walk whenever you can will help that.
Not Big walking, just periodic little walks to keep blood moving through your body.
Even just getting up and making a lap or two around the house every hour or so helps a lot!
Tiny, tiny sips here at first.
The internal surgery site is very swollen and irritated.
Don’t think it will always feel like this, cause it SO won’t.
The liquid BM’s? Yep, liquid in, liquid out…
But, be ready…that loosy stool will lock up like quick-set concrete when you least expect it.
Have some Milk of Magnesia in the cabinet waiting.
I’ll bet 5 American Dollars you’ll need it.
Hang in there and know that it does get MUCH Easier each week.
Best Wishes-
Dx

I just can't get my brain around these guys saying they're fluffling out these honkers!!? That sounds unreal since you're taking in so little food. Now me, I understand, but post op, come on - why is this?
Don,
Sounds perfectly normal. Take it easy, don't stress too much about the "amounts" of anything your taking or not taking in. It will get better and easier. But it will NOT happen overnight so relax and go with it.
Your body has a LOT of changes yet to go through. Not all of it will be fun. It won't all be easy. There WILL be times when you ask yourself if you did the right thing. Speaking from experience, I think I did.
Head hunger goes away. It sucks at first but it does get better. If you have support from family and friends, enjoy it. I had and have squat. If anything, I have people that are constantly amazed i have been as successful as I have and to this day enjoy F'in with me. Especially the people i work with.
The point of all that, be strong. You have to be. No one can do it for you. Remember the hardest part of this procedure is still ahead of you. Post-Op compliance is the hardest part. Take it one day at a time hell..... One MEAL at a time if you have to.
And remember you've got some compadres here that don't know you from Adam but have your back....
Don,
I agree, you are right on track. I could not eat the cereal or pudding. I still can not eat it. For some reason it just sits wrong with me. Sip on tha****er, and try Carnation instant breakfast sugar free chocolate, mixed with FF milk. It helped me tons. Hang in there bud, it gets better.
