Hey all.... I'm still on my BP medicine, and I've been noticing the following. Almost 8 months past my WLS day and I'm down 141 lbs.... That I'm feeling a bit "light headed" often now. For hours at a time...sorta a funny feeling, like know ing something's not quite "right" but not feeling bad or anything....just odd feeling? So, I took my BP 3 days ago, and it was 95 / 66 !!! Yipe. So I did it again an hour later, and it was 102 / 68.... Hmm....next day, I did NOT take my BP meds...and it rose to around 120 / 74 or so... So I didnt' take my BP meds again this am, and it's now around 140 / 78....so I then took 1/2 the amount of pills, and it's now down again to around 118 / 72.... So I'm thinking, that my large weight loss has meant that my BP meds dosage is now "too much" and I should call the doc... Care to chime in here lads? That'd be best I know in all cir****tances, but have I figured this out properly? Jim

Yep, Very common that folks need their BP Meds adjusted as they slide down the scales. Call the doc and explain and get new dosage. I know of a dozen people here locally *****ported the same thing…. Best Wishes- Dx

Way to go Jim. Sounds like your right on top of it. I did the same thing. I have found that medicine or I should say Doctors are just making educated guesses based on the information they have. The doc will most likely tell you to do exactly what you have done or he will get mad because you have enough common sense to do it your self and not let him make that decision for you.  I did the same thing several years ago, so this time as I lost weight I keep track of my BP and did the same thing you did till I was off of it. My last visit with my PCP I told him I was off of it and he said that was good.  I should say that I don't try do the docs job for him but I had been through this before. pan head

Woo-hoo Jim...the ol surgery is working as designed!  Call the Doc and get those meds adjusted...pretty soon you're not going to need them at all.  GOOD FOR YOU!  Cards Fan

Rock on JV.... Even after you loose the meds, our vascular system has still been stretched, and that drop still hits when you stand too fast... Congrats Russ

My blood pressure would drop down to 95/66 too, while I was losing.  It worried me also.  When it dropped below 100 I would take a small amount of salt (yes I know it is bad for the bp).  But just a small amount would raise it to a low but normal level.  I was finding that I was not eating processed foods so I was not getting enought salt in my diet.  I know it sounds odd but some people who are sip sip sipping away may be peeing the salt out of their systems...Brian

Hey Jim, most BP meds have to be dosed down, not just stopped completely.  For instance, I was on 100MG of Atenolol.  I cut it to 50 mg for about a week and a half, then down to 25mg for a week and I will likely drop it next week.  Looks like you have figured that out.

Be careful Jim, I too have low PB.  My surgeon told me to get off the BP meds.   But, my cardiologist said to wait 6 months post op, then come see him.  Then he will take me off the meds.  I am on a small dose of Benicar.  I too suffer the dizziness, mostly when I bend down or over.  In my opinion, my dizziness is caused by lack of protein.  Be safe, and check with you  Doc befor stopping your meds. Good luck, Kent 357/281/189
