Wow, I had my first support group meeting.

I had my first support group meeting last night, there were only 2 males, and a boat load of females.

The theme for the night was how to dress for your body and face types, with sub-subjects like where to wear your belts high or short. I told them my belts ride where ever my pants ride I have no choice in the matter.

This was more painful than my first night in ICU, knowing that I was missing my Jazz playing the Warriors. My god, tell me it gets better.

Hey Brett, I haven't seen it get any better in the support group I go to.  There are only 2 men in mine as well and about a dozen females.  Thank goodness we haven't had to cover the same topics as you had to endure.  sorry you had to go through that man.  i hope it gets better. Paul

Though the ratio is off balance and heavly female, I throw as much testosterone into the discussions as possible.  They figure it out real fast and I get some type of demented entertainment out of it.  You a man and don't be afraid of reminding them of it. Will

I've heard about support groups in my area but haven't gone to one yet. Are y'all required to attend?

It's part of the "recommended" routine from my doc, but not a requirement. I go, but feel like it's the same 4 people talking about  the same topics every month (Really Sally? You feel bad after eating all those M&M's? Well STOP BUYING THEM! /rant). It's kind of up and down for me whether I go every month, but my doc confided that I'm missed when I'm not there because I'm good press for him, particularly for the newbies.

I think the one they are having here this month is titled "Pregnancy and WLS."  Now unless they need me there to be a active participant, I'm thinking I am going to miss it.

My group has 4 men counting me. There are about 12 to 18 women on any one day. I guess the difference in the groups is that we don't have any "themes". We just go around the table, introduce ourselves (most of us know eachother anyway), report on how we are doing, how much weight we have lost and any issues that we have had or want to talk about. It is really pretty good and worth the time spent going to the meetings. We share lots of info about health, foods, stores and such things. We do get into some of the "womens" issues but not to the level that you seem to get. Try other groups, you don't need to only go to the one your doctor supports. Most groups are happy to have new faces and new views on things. We have several people (men included) that didn't have surgery with our doctors yet will drive up to 90 miles to attend one of our meetings.

Maybe you could suggest a "theme", as equal time for the gents.  How about "Penis Size after WLS"?
