Does anyone know of any medical reason why boxing would not be safe after Rny ? I am concerned about body blows to the stomach area. I boxed from age 13 till 21 and would like to pick it up again . It is the most intense workout you can do. I know at 40 I am not going to do it competevly but just working out and sparing with other boxers would be great again. Any  advise would be great thanks

Matt, I can't answer you from a medical perspective...but personally, I would not recommend this.  Working your abs (and the rest of your body for that matter) aggressively after surgery is fine, once you're fully healed and you're using proper form.  Taking direct hits to your abdomen in my estimation would be entirely too risky and I'd be willing to bet that your Surgeon would warn against doing so.  EVEN IF HIS NAME IS MOHAMED ALI!!!!    Seriously?????  I do know post-ops that participate in Taekwondo, and they do spar, however they do not train or compete full contact.  They do take some light hits, but have a full chest protector as well as helmet, hand and foot gear to guard against any errant blows.  There are plenty of other activities that will challenge you and get you in excellent physical condition...and many you can dial up the intensity on to get a fully productive workout.  Cards Fan "STEP OFF THE SIDELINE AND GET IN THE GAME!"

Matt, Maybe they will see your post and reply, But I know of two guys here who have posted photos of their Post-op boxing. It’s late and I’m distracted or I could pull names out…. So, an answer… Yes. There’s even guys here with the "Been There, Done That," with boxing. Best Wishes- Dx
