I haven't heard alot about drainage holes any info?   Very rarely do I hear about them, does everyone get some and do they close them up later - I'm having open R-NY?    (Still waiting on the nurse to get back with my surgery date - I notified them on Monday morning that I had reached the goal of 319 to be scheduled, wonder how long it takes...) I am 3 weeks out today.  I had one drain that was removed 5 days after surgery.  As they need to heal from the inside out, they are left open to heal on their own.  I still have a small scab about 1/4 of an inch in diamter.  It id drain a very small amount of fluid for a day or so after it was removed.  Nothing a band-aid could handle.  Now real trouble or maintanance since drain removal. Hope this helps. Will

Mike, some get ‘em, some don’t. Most are just JP Drains (Jackson Pratt Drains) to collect build up of body fluids. (like lymph fluid in a blister mixed with a little blood) For "care & Feeding of JP Drains- http://www.drugs.com/cg/jackson-pratt-drain-care.html Most get them post-plastic surgery for sure, some get them with any abdominal surgery, but not completely common for some of the Laproscopic procedures. Depends on the doc, the fluid production, the body shape, etc... Others may have a Gastrostomy drainage tube- "G-Tube" used to administer feeding or even drain excess intestinal fluids if needed from "old stomach". http://www.cincinnatichildrens.org/health/info/abdomen/home/ g-tube-care.htm or jejunal feeding tubes, These are more rare, but sometimes are used- http://surgnurseslinks.com/caluso.htm I got the joy of all of them! J Super helpful if needed, very rarely needed. That’s what I’ve got…. Best Wishes- Dx

Hey Mike, I had open RNY last Thursday and was discharged Saturday morning. The Dr came in took out a small tube that administered directly into the surgical site, not even a bandaid. Next he removed the drainage tube and put a 2 x 2 pad over it. That I change myself as needed, usually after I shower (helps the tape come off easier). Hope this helps. Don

Thanks for the update.  I guess the drainage hole is no big deal.   Hope everything is going well.  It's been only 4 days since I contacted my doctors office for the official surgery date.   Be gald when they get off their lunch break....

Mike
