Hi All,  I have been lurking for some time and I have decided that i better post before I go to surgery. I am very anxious at this point..Work on Mon and Tues and them Preop and meeting with my surgeon most of Wed. I know that this surgery will change my life for the better..but I have never even been admitted to the hospital before, let alone have surgery. Maybe I will need to call the Doc for a valium Script so I can make it trough the next couple off days.  Anyone else had these feelings? Tom

Hey Tom, welcome to the locker room!  Ya, I'm feeling pretty anxious myself, surgery is on Wednesday.  But I just keep thinking about the things I want to do and will be able to do once I shed this excess weight.  Keep focused on the future and you have a bunch of great guys right here that will help.  Good luck! Tom

Welcome to the locker room there are lots of well informed men here who are very supportive of all of us and you to will be supported as well. I myself am pre-op as well and while you are in surgery I will be meeting with the surgeon to get my surgery scheduled. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers for your upcoming procedure. Just keep in mind that by the end of the week you will be a real loser and that is a good thing.

Tom,

The nervousness is very common. Many of us have also been there. Try to focus on the positive changes that you are about to undergo. There are so many reasons to take the path you have chosen. I also understand the uncertainty of surgery. I never had surgery with the exception of carpal tunnel surgery prior to my RNY. I can only hope that your surgery goes as easy as mine. I insisted that I had the placebo surgery. I had the tiny marks on my belly, but I didn't have any pain to speak of and I have had terrific results. Like many others I wish I had done it years earlier.

It will all be worth it. Let us know how you are doing on the other side and ask all the questions you can think of now and in the coming days and months.

Good luck to you.

Life is great, Rick

Unlike you, I've had several surgeries.  I'm usually pretty cool until the night before, when I get some serious nerves.  Told my doctor that, he gave me a script for some generic Xanax.  Whether it was the pills or just me, I was during the lead-up. As for my experience, I'm not going to lie to you, the day of surgery sucked.  Not unbearable pain, more on a par with having a muscle pull and mild food poisoning.  The second day was ok except some soreness sitting and standing.  By day 4, I could do most things (except eat) without being aware I'd had surgery at all.  I think I could have gone back to work on day 4 (I have a desk job), but two more days got me to the weekend, so I took them and started after 7. We'll be looking for you at the Sunday weigh-in.

Hi Tom,

I was nervous and worried Dx and the boys to death the months before my surgery, needlessly. Very few people say the pain is intolderable and I haven't heard of any big early complications lately. So think in terms of probability and you'll be fine. I don't know about the valium. If it works for you, it might be good short term. But they may want you to stop a couple of days before surgery - when you'll need it most.

Anyway, a lot of people are off of pain drugs the second day, that's how easy it can be. So think thoughts like that and you'll be okay.

Best Wishes,

Dave

Tom, Anxiety prior to surgery is as common as Deep Navels out here! Ask for "a little something" and they are usually pretty good about passing out the drugs! Have the Greatest on Thursday! Best wishes- Dx

Hello Tom....I agree with everyone else on this board. If you have "any" questions ask away. These guys will help you out. They answered all mine. I also have a weird way at looking at things. I believe that every thing that happens to you is just another page in your life. Just turn the page and see what happens next. You only go through this lfe once so experience it whether it's good or bad. I don't know whether this will hel*****t but I'm sure you'll do fine. Dave

Tom, Welcome!  Oh yeah, I had similar feelings.  I was excited on one hand, but nervous on the other.  I was okay when I saw my surgeon in Pre op.  Just take it easy when you get home.  Follow his advice after surgery.  You will do fine!  Maybe, he will give you a script of liquid Vicodin like my surgeon did?  ( : Keep us posted, Kent 357/284/189
