WLS could lower life expectancy...
Hi Dx,
Saw your "I'm Back" post, but haven't read it yet. Just wanted to say first, it's always great to have you back!
It's true, living out of your own culture can make you crazy!
Blading is really pretty safe (with reservations about downhill blading). It's all about staying away from cars and other vertical, implanted objects. I'm generally able to avoid contact with the ground (probably because these particular blades are like leg braces - they almost hold you vertical!). Like I tell my wife, I only fall if I start loafing - standing around on those wheels.
Hope work, family and life in general are all well.
Dave
No big risks as of yet.... but here are the goals for the next year..... 1. Lose another 110 lbs (for a total of 200 lbs) 2. Start, finish, and kick the a$$ of the NYC Marathon. A friend has promised to jump out of an airplane with me and the Flying Elvises if I lose 200 lbs.... so yeah - nothing too risky thus far... but 2008 is going to be a real barn-burner.
The weight loss is pretty much in the bag - all yours.
Marathons, can be risky. I remember feeling as if I was going to die during several full marathons and triatlons. "Hydrate or Die" is the Camelbak slogan, isn't it? With half the small intestine of most people, it is a reality.
I'm generally not all that risky. But I do believe that part of staying young (or at least feeling young) involves doing certain activities that you truly enjoyed as a kid. For me, that was biking, roller skating (pre-blade), weight lifting and guitar. Oh and dieting! I think I started that at age 6. (Got a love-hate relationship with dieting, let me tell you!).
Ones I've skipped are football are wrestling.
Skydiving would appear risky (don't know if statistically, it really is...?) , But definitely a blast, those moments of free fall would really make you take notice of your "aliveness".
Have Fun,
Dave
Bob!
I was wondering where you were. Haven't heard from you in a while. Hope nothing too serious is happening at the fire department. I spoke with some people who had done martial arts and most said the snapping and twisting of the joints wasn't healthy with increasing years. One guy complained of bad hips another elbow problems. Then, if you actually do contact, you've got guys constantly trying to kick the sides of your knees.
Anyway, good to see you!
Dave
Thanks, CB. I think I look pretty skinny and you can tell that I live in cold climate. I tan pretty easily, but I look like a snow bear (They do have snow wiesels here! Maybe that's it! With the ears!!).
Hope that work deal is moving well for you. You're looking pretty healthy, I suppose you've sprung back by now (tough fellow!).
Good to Hear from You!
Dave
