May 50 Mile Challenge

Howdy Gents! We had fantastic participation last month for our exercise challenge. You are once again invited to participate in our exercise challenge for May. It doesn't matter whether you're pre-op or post-op, there's no better time to get into an exercise routine that will quickly become a healthy habit. Now, we've got some guys on here who started off not being able to walk more than a few miles per month who are now training for iron man competitions and running marathons. We've got guys who bike 500 miles a month and who lift weights to really bring out muscle definition. PLEASE do know that even if you're just starting out that we all had to start somewhere and nobody thinks any less of you if you aren't making huge mileage challenges for yourself. This is simply meant to be a fun way to keep track of your progress and hold yourself accountable to the other guys on the board. So, are you in? It doesn't matter whether you walk or run or bike or swim or canoe. We're encouraging people to shoot to get in at least 50 miles of exercise this month. I shot past my personal goal of 100 miles last month thanks to adding some spinning classes to the routine. I'm going to shoot for 100 again this month. I'm on vacation for a few days starting tomorrow, but will hopefully make it up for the rest of the month. Do me a favor and reply to this post if you're up to the challenge. Also send me a private message with your email address if you are interested in a spreadsheet to track your progress. Stronger everyday. -Dan

OK but only because you asked so darn nicely and do such a good job keeping us honest. I'm setting a goal for 50 miles in May walking & jogging (12.5 a week).  We will see how committed I am to training for events in Oct and Nov.  One is an 8K and the other a 13 K and I want to improve on the 1:34 it took me to do a 10K in March. If I can exceed that for May I will be more ambitious in June.  Love to see your spreadsheet. As usual, I'm in.
I am however, going to approach the challenge differently for the next few months.
Since I have a race each month May-August, I'll be training to stay in race-shape, but not pushing for total mileage.

I'll be checking in each week/month to log my progress... but I don't think I'll be shooting for any particular mileage goals.

Just gonna get my work in and stay accountable by sharing my results with the fellas.

Just as a side-note: I've noticed that I've been so caught up with my own training and whatnot, that I really haven't commented much on everyone else's workout progress & determination.

I'd like to take a moment to say how great I think it is to see guys of all different fitness levels and at different stages of the weight-loss jouney participating here and sharing your experiences.
I'm proud to be part of this forum and consider myself very lucky to have such a great bunch of guys as a support system. I may not have met many of you in person... but, I'm still glad to call each of you a friend.

And, so I'll close this mushy, sensitive-guy post with a shout-out to Cards Fan for starting this challenge and an extra special thanks to my man, Dan for keeping this bad boy alive!

See You At The Finish Line

Be Well,
A.J.

Been a while since I've been around. In recent months, I've taken to jogging/walking to work two to three times per week.  It's a seven mile trip each way, with 20 pounds of office in a backpack.  I just plug a book-on-iPod in and set off bright and early.  Just did a sprint Triathlon (little bitty one) and I have a half marathon coming up this weekend.
