This weekend was a shock

Last week after meeting the surgeon he said to drop 20 lbs before surgery.  Drop 10 pounds and he would schedule the surgery date.   As of Friday I had dropped 6 lbs in about 4 days.  Over the weekend I stayed on my diet knowing that on Monday I would be around 319 to schedule the surgery.   This morning I checked the scale and I had gained 3 pounds back.   I only had a little meat (following the "Atkins Diet" to drop the weight.)  No junk foods, no breads, pasta, cakes, taco's, hamburgers, etc.   As of this afternoon I've only had 4- hardboiled eggs.   Hopefully, tomorrow it will be better.

Hi Mike, It's frustrating, isn't it, they way our bods have minds of their own. Apparently all sorts of mysterious (and some not so mysterious) factors play a role in losing. Too few calories can slow weight loss, too little water, or maybe nothing identifiable. Your attitude seems right-on. Hang in there, stick to the program and don't despair. You'll get your date and we'll keep your spot on the Loser's Bench ready.

Hey Mike, make sure to drink lots of water - more than usual.  If you are like me you probably cut back on how much you drank, knowing that a gallon of water weighs 8lbs.  Unfortunately, the body will go into dehydration mode and store everything that goes into it.  It's much the same as if you go into starvation mode on a diet.  You lose somewhat, but then everything stops because the natural defense mechanism kicks and your body holds everything rather than eliminate stuff as waste.   Think of it as fuel and engine oil.  You need both for your engine to run smoothly.  Get at least 64 oz or more of water today (not including caffeine or carbonated drinks) and your body will kick into gear in a day or two. Hope this helps!!! Greg

Thanks for the information Greg.   I had always thought that 64oz included carbonated and caffeine drinks.   That should make a big difference seeing how I probably only actually drink about 16oz of water a day.   I guess I better learn to like water...
