I have a question...if you folks say carbs are bad for you and eat nothing but protein in your meals. What the heck do you eat?....I know I'm only 5 weeks post op, but myself I hate yogurt, warm cerals and pudding. I know that doesn't leave much.....what do you eat at home and when you go out for dinner?....I also have to watch my salt intake. I try to stay under 2000mg a day. Before my surgery I tried to stay under 1000mg. If you ever look at soup or anything else out of a can it is very high in salt....you just drink protein shakes all day? Dave

yeah early on your choices are limited, to your list i would add eggs (if your doc says its okay), and refried beans. Later on you can add ground meats, and possibly  tuna and other fish, and other beans  if you can tollerate it.

I eat a lot of fish. One of my staple "go-to" meals is to mix a protein (usually canned chicken or tuna) with yoghurt and a little FF mayo to make a bari-friendly tuna/chicken salad. Sometimes I put kidney beans in it. Then I put about a teaspoon on a multi-grain cracker. I eat three in a meal. Mmm Mmm. The seasoning combinations are limitless. This way I get mostly protein and a dash of carbs to keep the brain chuggin along.

I also drink a lot of crystal light (or the like) with unflavored Unjury protein powder in it.

If I'm cooking dinner I usually grill tilapia or cod and cook rice for the family. I skip the rice, and put some kind of friendly sauce on it. I guesss I'm lucky that I'm not too picky of an eater now...or ever, really.

I"m four months out now, but in the REALLY early days I blended up chicken with cottage cheese into a pate-like substance. Sometimes I'd whirr up some mixed veggies in it too.

Oh, and don't forget the power of an omlette. You can hide lots of good stuff in an egg.

Best of luck, man. Just remember the basics.

I'm new at this and, one of those crazy Lap-Banders. I'm just starting on the soft food phase.  Last night, my wife (a post-op RNY) made ground chicken (Tyson precooked cubed) salad with Mrs. Dash and a touch of hot-dog pickle relish with just enough LF Mayo to make it go down easier. She loves the Kashi Go-Lean cereal bars. I loved them pre-op. I can't wait to be able to have 1/3 to 1/2 of one for a snack.       Pre-op, my wife and I went to Outback. She has the Ahi Tuna appetizer and maybe a French Onion soup if she's froggy. Sometimes she gets is a small filet. Outback will hold the seasoning if you ask. Their Blue Cheese Sirloin Chopped Salad is good too but, I don't know about the Sodium grams. It's just enough meat to have some left over and still get some of the veggies in the salad. When she eats, she follows 4 simple rules. 1.) No bite bigger than a dime. 2.) 3 bites protein, 1 bite veggie, repeat. 3.) No more than a shot glass. 4.) Chew the out of it. We both drink 2 or 3 protien shakes a day. I can't remember the brand but, we get it at Sam's and it comes in a BIG purple resealable bag. She doctors it up with fruit or coffee cubes. I had pureed refried beans with a little cheese and some green chilli. Being an Angelino (from Los Angeles), I loved it.  She pureed some bean and bacon soup the other night.  Mmm....      I would hope that there are all kinds of soups and other things that are low enough in sodium. No sodium broth is a good additive to make pureed foods grind up nad still be moist enought to go down easy. Hope I helped some.
